Since I got my car back from Ztech, it hasn't been boosting right. Positive boost doesn't really get going until about 4.5k revs and peaks at about 5psi (aftermarket gauge, Profec B switched off). Having spoken to other owners with T28 tubs, there is deffo something amiss :(

I've only driven the car once since my leaking injector was fixed, and whilst trying to diagnose the boost issue, something metallic pinged off under the car at "full" boost (could have been something on the road but I suspect the car dropped something that was badly fitted). I got home, parked it up in my garage, locked the doors and left it there...

I've booked my Zed for it's MOT tomorrow and thought I'd better check fluids, battery etc.. today. She started fine but on revving the engine, she's making a raspy sound like a blowing exhaust under the rear passenger side of the plenum. I'm guessing that a turbo hose has popped off..

Has anyone got any suggestions or ideas before I jack her up and take a look underneath? Would really appreciate some advice

I love my zed and really want to rekindle my enthusiasm for her. If she'd passed the MOT I was hoping to get to the AGM this weekend, but looks unlikely now.. :(

Yours depressed,

Steve :(

when did you get her back?

Got her back from Ztech on 12 August last year - http://www.300zx.co.uk/forums/showthread.php?t=78226

Got her through the MOT on 6 September - http://www.300zx.co.uk/forums/showthread.php?t=79921 despite a big boost leak

Injector leak stopped me driving her in September - http://www.300zx.co.uk/forums/showthread.php?t=82192

Finally got the injector sorted in June just gone - http://www.300zx.co.uk/forums/showthread.php?t=96207

Could be EGR related - check the connection where it joins the passenger exhaust manifold

Will do Andy - is this best viewed from under the car?

No you'll have to remove the battery to be able to see down there though. Check the nut hasn't come loose. Could be a number of things but I'd check that first...

Battery's flat so I'll be whipping it out to charge anyway  Will have a look tomorrow if I get some time...

Many thanks Andy

LOL - finally got around to this yesterday. All hoses under the battery area looked sound. Got under the car and both inlet and exhaust sides of pass turbo look ok as well

Ran the car for 20 mins on idle and the noise near the pass rear of plenum sounded like cross between a diesel and a helicopter taking off :( Also on giving it some revs, the engine was stumbling and almost stalling when returning to idle...

I think I need to check my ECU temp sensor as it seemed to be getting much warmer than usual (after market gauge showed 190F/90C and aux fan stayed off). And why the fook would my electrical temp gauge face (Autometer) steam up?

Any help appreciated!

my guess would be possibly air in the water system to make it over heat and either the manifold/turbo/downpipe is loose or not tightened up so its blowing badly which will make is sound bad and cause it to boost badly?

only way is to get it in the air and have a good look and check all the bolts etc etc

Thanks Mike - I've got her booked in for her MOT on Friday. I know the tester pretty well so I should be able to have a good poke around when she's up on the lift..

Well the MOT was this morning and she failed :( Emmissions could not be measured because the air leak in the exhaust system was so bad..

While under the car, we established that the leak is probably where the pass side downpipe meets the tub. You could actually feel the air if you stuck your hand up by the joint...

This downpipe obviously would have been reattached when the tubs were upgraded. However, the bolts look quite rusty and almost untouched  Looks like some liquid gasket has been applied to the joint as well...

I'm going to undo the downpipe and see if I can get a better seal. Just hoping to christ that it isn't a crack or something more serious :( Should I get hold of the proper gasket for this or would a homemade effort suffice to get her throught the test?

She also failed on the following:

Front wipers fooked

Front ns headlight aim too low

Offside rear reg plate lamp not working

I've booked the retest for tomorrow week - wish me luck!

I would recommend using a proper gasket as it consists of two pieces of copper sandwitching a heatproof material which gets compressed when tightened up.

Gotcha - thanks bud! I'll have a go at undoing these bolts over the weekend and see what the damage is ;)

Don't know if have five bolts or not, but while you are there you may as well fit some 2fast2cool decat pipes and split downpipes, worth it :)

Try tightening the bolts, to the tub they may just not be done up properly!

Thanks Mark but already decatted and I'm not looking to spend too much at the moment. Tightening the bolts would be a good call though ;) :D

I've been under the car today to have a look. The seals are all fine but there is a round hole in the top of the passenger turbo elbow which looks like something was screwed into it (O2 sensor?) Can anyone advise on what I'm missing and the best way to fix it to get her through the MOT retest?

o2 sensor

LOL - how the fook can an O2 sensor just disappear? I thought they were a bugger to remove! I can't see any trace of the cable either (using my torch and angled mirror on an extension!) That'll explain this then....

something metallic pinged off under the car at "full" boost (could have been something on the road but I suspect the car dropped something that was badly fitted).

Does anyone know the thread size I need to block the hole off? I know she'll run rich but will this get her through the MOT ok?

you need to ask "who fitted the pipes" and allso "why the o2 was left out" then you might find answers.

It might not run correctly to get through the mot, your best solution maybe to get an 02 sensor asap, I have a spare one here steve that you can pick up whenever you want, but will need it replaced as it is for my car!
