Oh dear.

I'm looking at a well kept, fsh uk car, with light bubbling on arches+ some big bubbles in the back of sill, where it meets wheel area.

Its far too good to break, or let rot completely, but i cant spend a fortune on it!

What i need is a guide price for a bodyshop, to do the cutting/welding + some nice shiny red paint on top?

Any idea whats a fair price, to make it nice again?

Any bodyworkers here want to take it on?

Rust on the rear wheel arches is a common issue, mine need doing too...

You'll most likely need the inner and outer sills replaced, both available from Nissan or MJP.

To cut out old sills, weld in new sills and cut out all other rust and then full blowover repsray I'd say you were looking at about £2k - But Bodyshop prices vary a lot.

First thing to do before spending any cash mate is remove the rear seat, pull the carpet back abit and look at the rear floor pan. The rear sill section when it rots goes under the rear suspension and into the floor area, if both sections rot it can travel until both left and right sides meet in the middle, thats when Z's get scrapped!

If alls okay, go to a metalwork shop armed with your replacement panels, they will cut/shut and fit far quicker, easier, better and usually cheaper than any bodywork shop can ;) then afterwards get quotes for the bodywork making good and painting. There are 4 rear sill sections, 1 outer and 3 inners and all sections bar one are cheaply available from MJP as a pattern part, the beefiest section that bolts to the rear suspension is only from Nissan and at £250 per side.

Hope that helps bud

Well.

I've had a few quotes 'ooh well mate, big job seats out, boot/ bonnet off, cut this do that £youdontwannaknow+vat!

Then one old guy said ' cor lovely, nice rare car+ a bit of proper hand making panels + sections...i'll do it cheap because i enjoy it, you better be quick though, i leave the trade in two weeks. So,Cut,welded, new panels, skim of filler, stoneguard+ waxoiled.both sides!errr,is £450+vat,o.k? ' A Few pictures will taken as he goes too.

At this point i was standing open mouthed, perilously close to drooling on my chin.lol.

Good price?, basically cost+a little bit....i cant wait to book it in now,was on his own today.

What the fook are you waiting for..thats mega cheep for the work involved, may be a little too cheep though and may reflect the quality of work. Not many body shops will take this kind of work on nowadays, just be sure he does the job properly, and not like the cowboys who just used filler on my car a couple of years ago, I'm now in the middle of doing the work myself

As Ossain says mate, not many bodyshops will happily do the amount of welding and fabricating required for this job, but 450 notes is mega cheap ;)

I would still check under the rear carpet to determine how bad it is before he starts and then check again after he's finished. For that kinda money it suggests that he only thinks the one outer skin maybe gone, best know in advance mate.

Oh and just to re affirm to others, this generally is a UK model problem, Jap specs with this type of rot are a lot fewer ;)

Hi,

When I changed my rear seatbelts over to UK spec, the UK ones had really rusty bolts attached, where they screw into the floorpan!...they looked very bad!....especially compared to the as new bolts out of my Jap spec car.

Needless to say, I swapped my bolts over onto the UK belts.

Cheerz,

Jez.

Just to give you an idea of how much work is involved, as im making all my own panels I went to the local steel merchant and bought a 6'x3' sheet of steel...... plenty enough to do the car and still have lots left to do a couple of other little jobs....... or so I thought, I may have to go buy more to do the inner sections behind the rear wheel arches.
