Thinking of getting a TT 300zx...

How much do these things cost to maintain say a year? What would need to be done every certain no. of miles etc?

Im thinking like regular oil changes etc?

Thanks.

in the last two years mine has cost me about 150 quid in maintanence, need a new clutch and ball joints now that will bump it up, but get a good one and hopefully you will just be looking at general maintanance and possibly woth a cambelt change when you buy one if you are unsure of if it has been done or not

Christ mate, be careful, @ 19 years old, I couldn't afford shit. No point in giving an average figure really, each Z is different and you need to plan for the unfortunate. Some Zs maybe good and end up costing you very little, others that seem good might cost you a fortune. Sometimes it's luck of the draw, sometimes it isn't.

As a complete ballpark figure I'd say a couple of grand all in? about a grand in tyres and so on, and another grand in fixing things I reckon is a good amount. Hopefully you wont need it but I wouldn't have a Zed without having that money available just in case. My last Zed was heavily modded and had had a lot of money spent by the last owners on new everything. It only cost me £150 for a MAF in the year I had it plus about a grand for good tyres and oil, etc. The one I have now is standard and I've spent over a grand in the last three or four months in getting it up to scratch, and thats not including tyres. Its deffo a big jump from an SX just because of the cost of parts and labour.

set of tyres per year - £600-700

oil changes - £120

average - £1k fix it fund

are you in a position to carry out the labour yourself?

if not its specialist time as your average back street garage takes one look, scartches his head and sucks his teeth.

If you however you can carry out the work yourself that should save a lot of coin

Like fairladyzgirl said it could cost next to nothing or could be like mine, in mint condition and in the space of 6 months around £2000 in bits and pieces then nothing for a year. I bought my first swb tt when i was 19 and after 8 months i was forced to sell it because i couldnt afford the running costs so be careful.

i spent £9k in 3 years but that was to mod mainly. best thing is look around get a good one cause if you dont a zed will zap you money

depends on the miles you do... and of course if you get a good one. i've been lucky with mine, had plenty of history and all the right maintainence had been done.

It also depends how you drive it as well, if you respect them and allow them to heat and cool nicely then you should be fine. If you try and thrash it from cold then you'll find it wont last long!

It also depends wether you are from the school of thought that believe in preventative maintainence. If you repair things before they break you will be forever changing things and this will result in an expensive time.

As for mileage, turbos are said to only last about 60k, but will last longer if the car has had a nice life, and regular oil changes as well as keeping its cats... Dont decat it unless you want to replace the turbos very soon! There is ment to be a big service at 60k, waterpump, cambelt, tensioners, vtc springs etc etc Depends if you want to follow all that. Not unknown for a car to be fine for 100k plus without all this extensive part replacement. But all on the cars life and history.

Cant but a definite figure on it, but keeping the 1 to 2k slush fund available is the only way you can be sure that you have the funds for "any" repair... Also im convinced that zeds can sense bank balance, they behave until you are skint and then give grief as soon as you have to spend your slush fund....!

A point to the "more experienced" members, im 20 and because the zed is a relativly low risk in its group its insurance is quite cheap (for what it is!)

For example, a scooby (even just a 215bhp wrx) would be twice as much to insure... Tax is the same as any other car over 1549cc and fuel is well, not good. But then i dont have my zed to drive every day.

The cost is of course offset by maintaince, but as has been said its always luck of the draw and finding a good one... (on another note, if you find a good one stick with it "better the devil you know....")

thanks guys! yeah im 19 and have already paid off my SX's insurance and they just want £190 on top to unsure a TT Zed.

I earn plenty to run it, just wondered what i was letting myself in for!

That saddens me about the de-cat thing though, they tend to be quite a good mod dont they on tubby cars?! :(

yup ive had mine decatted for 2 years now and had no issues whatsoever, can make the turbo seals go but they will go eventually anyway so i risked it

I've spent 5 grand this year just in repairs and a bit of modding (Engine mainly). My advice would be take your time and find a good one thats been cared for and not any of your cheap ebay rubbish. There's always plenty of nice examples for sale on here.

Don't be concerned by decatt scares mate. Zeds are no different to any other car. The problems are because the turbos tend to go after 60-80k ish miles and then people buy them and remove the cats and then realise they have turbo seals on the way out. The seals were worn out anyway, they were just not noticable due to the cats either masking the smoke or giving a bit of extra back pressure. Its just a big mission to replace turbos on a Zed (engine out)

Oh and petrol. When I collected mine, filled it up (£60), drove 130miles (all motorway cruising with a few bursts on the fun pedal) and it was under half full. Poking around town on short trips sees about 14mpg. Road tax is £180. Insurance for mine at 21 was £2600FC, £900TPFT. Is it going to be your first car?

Yearly costs

£1000 Tyres

£500 Servicing (Oil, breaks etc)

£1000 Repairs/normal ware and tear replacement

£500 "Other"

Should see you about right fo rthe Average Zed, some are worse some are better

your petrol cost doubled with TT to an N/A...... :)

...

Do they? I always thought NA economy was not much different to a TT?

TT is actually better on the motorway at a constant speed than an n/a due to the gear ratio's and the way they are set up.
