i took a caliper off today and cracked the brake pipe while the caliper was hanging free.

What a ridiculous idea to put inflexible pipes joining the calipers which are obviously going to get flexed when the calipers are removed and then making the pipes thin iron in a ideal breading ground for rust!!

Anyway can i go to a nissan dealership to get a replacement pipe? hopefully that includes the nut going into the caliper on one side and the nut going the brake lines on the other.

Is it likely to be in stock at a relatively large dealer and if i have to order it in is mjp likely to have one in stock? what is the likely price for a thin bit of bent iron pipe?

More expensive than making one yourself from Kunifer tubing!

You'll need a flaring tool tho'! :)

ye i was gonna say, you could by a 20ft roll of copper/nickle and a flaring tool for about the same price likely, and then at least youl be able to knock up a load more brake lines in future. ;)

you might get away with re-using the old nuts but if not, go to a scrappy and rip them off a car with and ABS unit as theres HUNDREDS all in one spot, usually good condition too.

Most half decent accessory shops should be able to make you one......

Wy not take the oportunity to upgrade to s/s flexible brake lines, iirc Topless had a set for sale, failing that speak to Danny @ DTA

it is not the brake lines as i already have them in SS braided hose. it is the small pipe about 20cm long that goes from the bottom of where the SS hose ends and into the caliper. brake pipe may not be the right term as i have read posts on here that people have said these are a pain to change but these look straight forward.

cant see how they could cost much to replace either......

It is a brake pipe, the difficult ones people refer to are the long ones that run to the rear brakes, often over the top of the fuel tank (not sure of the routing on a Z). Your friendly local independent garage should be able to make one up for you if you don't want to do it yourself. Just take the old one as a pattern. Nissan will charge you loads if they even sell pre bent versions. You're unlikely to get a pattern one as garages make them up themselves. If you do it yourself make sure you check the type of flare, I guess Z's use JASO flares whereas EU/US OEM's use ISO.
