Hello guys, this is my first post and hoping for a little help on the world of 300ZX's! :D

Love the look of them, but i think id like to go for a '96 or '97 model for piece of mind/gadgets...can anyone tell me the difference in equipment between '90 and '96??

Also, id like to know a little about their performance! How quick are they realisticly? I drive a stage 1 (soon to be stage 2) 200sx, how would they compare? Plus how cheap are Zed's to tune from stock to get some pretty decent power?

Finally...the dreaded MPG question! Just how bad are they!? lol. i KNOW you dont buy this kind of car for mpg, but would be nice to know what im in for!

Thanks for any help guys, and lets hope you can pursuade me to become a member of the community!!! :wack:

P.S - sorry for the long post! Oh, and have a Guinness! :duffer:

a 400bhp Zed wont keep up with an STi?

My flippin sx was catchin after 40!

Like Lagrath says. once you stop the wheels spining and lay the power down You'll catch the STi very quickly and fly past. Which always pees them off and a rolling start from 30mph onwards they just disapear in your rear veiw.

One thing to remember though is when it comes to tuning. Once you've gone past the Chip, boost controler, better coolers you'll need bigger front brakes.

Then it gets really expensive to do it right. The same year Supra TT will cost £4K more to buy but will get to £500 RWHP for about £3K less.

So depending how much power you really want depends where you start.

Good £4K Z TT + £1500 = 400RWHP for £5500. Which is cheeper than a standard Supra, but 500RWHP Z will cost You the same as a 500RWHP Supra Unless you buy a good one already done.

Hi, depends if I can find the extra money but possibly. Can you send me your number and some pictures and details (history, etc) at the email address above? better off discussing it offline.

im only 19 at the mo, so 500bhp may be a little much for insurance to cope with!

Royal, ill email you some pics etc, but this only a massive *maybe* at the mo mate.

Thats cool mate, likewise as I was ideally looking for a towing car or an already set up drifter but its sounds a nice starting point. I live quite a way from you but I could always come down that way for a cruise and we could take a look at each others cars.

Have you checked insurance by the way? the Zed is a lower group (18 I think, not sure what the sx is?) than Rexs and skylines (20) so you should be ok but worth checking.

well, this is group 18 too, so shouldnt be much diff.

Sorry its FILTHY!

And yes, coilovers were next on the list!!!

So anyone here who might also be interested in a swap, shout!

As above mate, can you send me some details of history, miles, etc. If you are interested I can drive the Zed down and meet you somewhere. Ta

I fookin love that Rex, can't wait to see it in person at some point.

I also like the look of those stretched tyres on the 200sx. Nice rims...

Cheers dude! I was going to change the rears for 165's but ive really fallen in love with the streched look!

Hi Mate,

Very similar to a TT supra

5 speed. Standard TT 0-60mph is about 5.5 secs and 0-100 is about 14 secs. Exhaust, flter, chip, 1 bar boost will see a 0-60 in under 5 secs and a 0-100 in under 12 secs.

No need to change fuel pump, its got a 255lph pump as standard.

mpg is usually low 20's, will drop to low teens when playing but can be as high as high 20's// low 30's on motorway.

Power delivery is differnent to a SX. The zed less lag, more torque and a better power spread...and much longer legs.

agree totally but the 300 has less lag :wack: cant agree with that, my sx came in at 2750 with full boost in non standard form :duffer:

slow scubby!!!

well i also kept up with a skyline GTR... Think people underestimate a stage 1 SX! circa 270-80bhp with ALOT less weight than a skyline and less transmission losses than a scoob!

Thing is , it would have to be a well fettled sx to keep up with a standard Zed,Skyline,Supra or any of the big powwah cars, and as soon as those cars start modding it'll leave the sx in the dust! Big bhp extreme examples aside its just not in the same league power wise even with its weight advantage. Most of those cars will nudge 150 without much bother, many will do a fair bit more than that. I've never seen an SX hit that sort of speed?

ive done 140 with a full car in 4th, didnt take long to get there either. Even with half throttle and a boost leak!

Silly i know but they were the twats telling me to carry on! LOL

Ah well if someone told you to do it... lol :)

No offence mate but my old 220k bmw 525 would do that quite happily all day if I wanted to. A non-turbo Zed would also do that. A gtr, twin turbo zed or rex are in a different league. You might stay with them for a bit but its not going to last is it? Horses for courses and all that. I'd like an Sx to drift in and because its cheaper to run and maintain, not to top end it. If I wanted to go fast in the Zed I'd spend £500 on upping the boost a little and it would hit 160 plus no problem. As it is I've got the rex for doing that (and it goes a lot faster), so I'm not really interested in making the Zed go faster. I bought the Zed as a nice GT for doing journeys that are not fun in the loud and stiff rex, and because I love the cars after owning two others. Its just not practical having two big power cars that are expensive to run and maintain so I need to swap the Zed for something more practical.

You should arrange for someone to take you out in their Zed, you'll enjoy it :)

thing is theres no real way of doing 160+mph in this country, your never likely to be there unless your on the strip, my sx would keep with a stock z when running 1 bar of boost easily. your knocking off 400kgs so power to weight

if you setup the final drive of the sx then you could add some top end punch, but end of the day a 3.0 TT was designed to have legs, and power delivery is smooth opposed to neck breaking, iv owned both so can comment, id rather have my z on most occassions but for mucking about the sx would win. over a 100 the z is a brute compared to the sx, but midrange i found the 200 with straight through systym mental from 60-120 which is where i drive most of the time

both cool cars, z looks better with some kit on!
