Driving back from Nottingham today along the A610, a Vauxhall Meriva decided to pull straight out infront of me(Bloody old farts), onto the single carriageway. I tried my best to avoid the car (Braking and swerving) until I noticed I was going to hit a central reservation so had no option but to go back into the side of him(parrallel with him at the time). Pulled over, exchanged details etc/rang insurance and everything checked out.

Now, my question is... Seeing as I am claiming from the third party, how would I stand getting my aftermarket wheels replaced if they werent listed on my insurance policy as a modification?

would be tight, prob is, depending on damage they may just write your car off, especially if you are claiming for aftermarket wheels, dont forget he whiplash lol

You won't. If they are not declared, they are not insured. IIRC, insurance companies swap details. If your car is not insured correctly, then I don't think the third party's insurance will pay out for those. I could be wrong.

they were on the car when you bought it, wasnt they ????, same as mine were but was never brought up at all, they just put a quote in for refurb.

Depends how picky your insurence it fella. They could state you have modified the car and not informed them so your insurence is totally void.

I do hope the latter isnt the case...

What do you mean IF you get it? You WILL get it.......wont you!

Be carefull he dosnt try and say you where trying to overtake him as he was driving along and you went into him trying to overtake because of the obsticle in the road, never trust anything someone says in an accident, they might admit to you its their fault but its weird how the claim form always says something different. I hope you got witnesses?

i would imagine the insurance company will be chuffed you have aftermarket wheels. can you imagine what nissan will want for a new genuine alloy?

I'd get a set of stock wheels put on the car just incase they try and be funny about it, its a shame that you will not get paid out for the wheels though by doing this but its better than them not paying anything out at all if they say insurence void, then you lost the lot and nothing in your bin and not to mention the other guys insurence taking you to court to get their money back as you insurence will be void. Not saying that will happen but it could, all because the wheels havent been declared. What else has been done to the car and not declared?

yeah they will be chuffed if they havnt got to pay out anything, you know what they are like any excuse not to pay out

I cant see him changing his story because the stretch of road where it happened, there was no where to overtake! Id be really disapointed if he pulled that one after how nice I was to him.

Im off to doctors again in morning, still having problems with my trapez. muscles.

How would I go about letting the insurance company of the injuries? I have a discharge from the A&E to back up whats a matter with me.

With me only being third party, I have been told that my case may drag on. Is there anything other than dog Elephant to speed things up?

you get wiplash across the top of your shoulder's, down the front of your chest and the back of your neck from your shoulders up, i reckon by the time you wake up in the morn you will know what wiplash is lol

Happened to me. my car (astra sri) had after market wheels on it which i never told the insurance about. BANG! a mini landed on the roof!?!?!?!

I had to pay the extra that it would have cost for the wheels on a 12 months insurance without any discounts or anything. worked out about £175 but I had to pay it or the insurance wouldnt pay out.

I would just see what they say and play it by ear. They were on the car when you bought it right ;)

must say, every insurance company ive used hasnt charged any extra for bigger or aftermarket wheels

I dont mind paying extra to get them on my policy, as long as I get a pay out. Want my car back asap.

Just play stoopid. they were on the car when you bought it on a whim. didnt do any research just liked the look of it! end of story

Ignorance isnt an excuse if its anything like law but I will play it like that anyway. They dont look terribly aftermarket to be honest.

Same here. I've always told them as well but they didn't charge extra. In most cases aftermarket alloys are cheaper to replace than OEM items anyway......

Richard :)

I have something to say............ It's better to burn out than to fade away..... :tt2:

Just state that the car is exactly as you bought it. You know nothing about cars only how to drive them. If there aftermarket wheels you kow nothing about them but just want them fixed. Most Insurance companies will allow thigs like that if they know/think that the car was not intentionally modified. I had aftermarket wheels on my xr2 then when a granny in a vauxhall corsa stuffed the back in I claimed all the mods were as I bought the car, including the self built engine/home made engine lol paid out £1000 for the entire car just had to cover £60 to say the only mod was the wheels lol
