folding mirrors with alarm arm/disarm

Recommended Posts

I did this mod on my old prelude and it was pretty bo shank. When the alarm was locked with the alarm blipper i wired in the folding mirror switch wire to fold in the mirrors and to unfold them when unlocked.

Most alarms have wires that give a voltage or ground for an amount of time after the alarm is armed for window lift/total closure so i know this would be possible with my cobra alarm on the zed as this has window lift but i was wondering how the folding mirrors fold and if this would be an easy mod. Has anyone done it on here?

from what i can recal the folding mirror switch just make a live connection to the mirrors the switch has 3 setting fold out off and fold in so as long as the pulse from the alarm is long enough then you should get auto mirror movment

a couple of years ago some one was planning to make a circuit so they fold / unfold with the ignition, can't remember how far they got

but the question is... on the blipper or on the ignition...?...

on the alarm for me. i would have to see how they operate first as to wether they would work with ignition or not. problem you have with the ignition, there would either be a perminant live while its on, or perminant neg when off, so will have to test the modules and see if theres any current drain.

good to see there is some interest in this. It seems like there are more electronically capable people on this thread that i will see how they do it first before i attempt it. Another thing that i guess could be easily added if this device was on the blipper command would be to add a 'blipping' noise when the alarm is armed/disarmed because mine doesnt have one (think they stopped doing it because of noise pollution!!! what about the noise pollution when the alarm goes off in error!) and it is annoying when i cant hear the central locking go and have to go back and check, makes the remote pointless.

You should be easily able to get a light/ indicator flash to indicate that it's set...

yeah the indicators flash but i would prefer an audible sound for when it is bright and you miss the flash or when you are looking the other way. I know i am being fussy but after almost a year of owning the car and coming from a car with a told alarm that did blip, it still annoys me everytime!

all alarms ive come across have audible chirp on arm/dissarm. on most, it is a programmable feature, so it could have been turned off. i have a toad ai606 on mine which has 4 program options. off/1/2/3. i have mine set on 2 because 3 is too loud for night time.

IIRC. on cobra alarms you disconnect battery for 30 seconds then as you reconnect the battery press the arm button on fob at same time. This then makes it chirp. may not work on all of them though.

interesting. i will give this a try but before i do it has anyone else tried this and it has worked. I am not keen on disconnecting my battery because i loathe setting up my stereo again everytime!

just read through the thread and seems fine but did this guy ever end up producing these and what was the result?

Is he still selling them does anyone know? £20 seems pretty steep....

it has been tried and tested many a time, and works on most of them. ive fitted 1000s of alarms over the years.

you have to press the lock button at exactly the same time you connect the battery terminal.
