Advice please. Is it advisable to use an engine flush or not prior to oil/filter change? I have TT Auto,

Featured Replies

some say yay some say nay.

one will say its killed their engine the next will tell you they used it in loads of Zed's for years and its fine.

You wont get an answer on this one mate its just a Big ole itf139020.jpg

I have not personally used a flushing treatment in my zx (I don't think it has ever needed it) but I have used it in my previous cars (including 2 Mk3 Supsa Turbos) without problems.

JUst steer clear of additives and use a decent quality oil in the first place!

I have something to say............ It's better to burn out than to fade away..... :tt2:

I've used it once, then flushed through with cheapo oil, then drained, then filled with normal oil :)

When flushing oil is used on old engines, there is an increased possibility of loosening carbon deposits (old burnt oil) inside the engine. These carbon deposits may then block some of the oilways.

The rule of thumb is either to use flushing oil every couple of years through the car's life - or don't use it at all.

I would not use flushing oil in a 10 year old engine, regardless of mileage - unless previous owners had also used it.

i wouldn't bother mate just drain the oil and change the filter. This will be more than suffiecent

Drop the oil and filter then put some cheap oil in leave to tick over for a while then drop oil again refill with decent oil this will flush out all the old oil from parts of the engine that dont drain so easy

your oil will be alot cleaner

As above, wouldn't use a flush in any engine with hydraulic lifters, you'll never drain it all out!! Diesel oil is a good idea, but a flush with cheap oil would be sufficient, just make sure the engine, and the oil in it, is piping hot before you drain it.
