Hi Guys

I think its best to do this publicly and I'm informing you all of you before I tell the committee.

Today with pretty much immediate effect I've decided to step down from the committee. This isn't the usual post where I blame work commitments and lack of time, whereas they are of concern I have in the past been able to work into the late hours on the club because I have had a belief that it would be worth it.

Throughout all the controversy over the years and the shady things I have been blamed of I can honestly say that anything I have done in the past has been because I truly think it has benefited the club, I have not gained financially out of the club in any manner except for maybe a few discounts which I have never asked for.

My company still holds the 300zx collocated server and we will honor that contract, please remember my company was only paid at the insistence of other committee members, I was extremely happy to continue hosting the server for free and thats why the club hasn't seen any charges for overages in transit usage.

I've had some really good times, and met some really good members, I've been here since I was 19 and always have been the youngest committee members, I'm catching up fast to 26 now so this has been a large chunk of my adult life and one I will actually miss from time to time.

If any of you guys want to step up to the place and take on my role please do, I'll handover the current setup. You will however need some experience in the following:

PHP

Linux

Apache

Sendmail

Perl

Vbulletin

MySQL

not an extremely high level, but having worked with those to a moderate level will be beneficial. It's not a role to jump into, it takes a lot to keep this place going and your main commitments will be to the system and not to the process of the club.

Anyway, I'll be sticking around and probably pop around to a few local meets, so good luck and thanks for all the fish.

Bloody hell mate, you'll be missed. I don't think people ever realise how much work goes into this sort of thing. I hope there's someone who can take over. They had better have some big feet to fill those boots! Hopefully see you at a meet, might chuck you a CV one of these days as the South Coast is a bit more Balmy than the City and I'm just about to finish my CCNP!

well its a bloody big shock!! hope you do well in the future fella and im sure you will be sadly missed. i personally wouldn't like to have to deal with running a club site as i bet it can be extremly frustrating at times.

again take car and don't be a stranger to come on here.

gaz

good luck mike, top bloke for all you have put in to the forum.

Bloody el Mike I am gutted, all I can is thanks and to all who don't know Mike, he has worked hard behind the scenes and his company has hosted this forum for a long time free of charge!

Sorry to hear your standing down mike. :(

I cant say Im suprised though, what with selling your Zed some time ago and not coming on here much anymore the loss of enthusiasm was obvious and this decision inevitable.

Huge thanks for all your hard work over the years, its unlikely that anyone else not in the industry will understand whats involved in keeping a Busy site like this running.

All the best,

David

sorry to hear this Mike but do what you think is best.

...and thankyou for continuing to host the site. i dread to think what would happen if we lost the server!!

Thanks Mike for all the hard work you've put into the club and keeping the server going for us, you will be missed mate.

We havent always seen eye to eye Mike but I am sad to see that you have had enough and fair play to you. It cant have been easy putting up with the likes of me in my early days on the forum?

Good luck for the future and all the best mate. Thank you for what you have done. Truely.

Hi Mike,

I do remember reading some posts from you a while back....it is always sad when the time comes to leave a part of your life behind, but I'm sure you'll have made the right decision.

Maybe if there is less pressure on you, you'd be able to become a full sit back have cigars and cocktails type of member now!!

Take care...........

Just out of interest, what kind of usage does a forum this size use Monthly on average and how much webspace is required to run the BB inc all the photos etc?

:( Very sorry to hear this Mike - keep in touch bud
