gear box wont go into 3rd and 2nd!!! drained oil and cleaned magnet and filter / strainer filled with dex 111, still the same now im thinking may be torgue converter or solonoid??? Now is the torque converter in the box itself?? and were are the solonoids positioned??

And I know that alot of you are going to say MANUAL convertion time, so if it is a good idea could someone tell me where the best place to get the kit, and the approx cost of the kit??? I would plan on doing this myself, so any help from people who have done a previous one would be welcome.

cheers

Make sure the box is from a TT (it looks like your is a TT), you will then require, propshaft, flywheel + bolts, clutch + bolts, spigot bearing, gearlever, 2 rubber gear lever boots + mntg plate with 4 screws, 1 leather gearlever gaiter, gearknob, clutch pedal, master cylinder, slave cylinder, joining pipe. Thats the basics, normal manuals have a booster fitted with some associated pipework, which is optional, but recommended especially if you intended getting a non standard clutch.

Its not a bad job, me and son (Jimmer) did mine easily in a day, started 9.30 and I was driving it home at 4.30, without reversing lights connected, that takes a bit of working out.

christ sounds like a big job and an expensive one at that.mate lol might just stick a 2nd hand a/t box in it.

I have got an auto box just becoming available that had a Ztech re-build done 10,000 miles ago. It comes with the Z centre oil cooler upgrade too..

PM me if interested. I reckon it will be the best 2nd hand box you can buy as they are all 15+ years old now and unless you can find one with receipts to show you it has been done you are buying a time bomb.

PM me for details if you decide to do the simple swap.

Its cheaper in the end, believe me ive been there .....................:)

hey mate i will pm you

Have you run the Gearbox ECU test to check for error codes- http://www.twinturbo.net/ttnettech/autodiag/autodiag.html

Manual conversion kit typically cost around £700-£800 (although you may want to invest in a new Clutch at same time)...ask the Specialist garages or check out anyone breaking a Manual TT

700 to 800 for parts i presume.

How much for the labour on all that? I mean im pretty sure i wouldnt be able to manage that.

(might be following you atc300.... want a manual box now)

Also, my auto box has fairly recently been replaced with a reconditioned one, about 15k ago now i think it was. Anyone got any ideas as to what its worth?

The manual box from the NA is the same as the TT (Same part number) only the bellhousing is different as the NA flywheel is 4mm smaller diameter. The Prop and diff of the NA is smaller and lighter with a lower ratio to final drive so if you do get the box from a NA with the TT front half of the prop to run your existing diff, you'd need the TT speed sensor.

labour you're looking @ £400 for manual conversion

the auto box when recon cost @ £1300-£1500 to do...but once you've used it you'll be doing well to get £300....depends on who's desperate at the time...and where you live...easy to ship / collect etc

HTH

ah thats not so bad then. Just have to work out if its worth it... Or to just sell and buy a manual!

Mine is playing up too. Sometimes it will go into overdrive and sometimes it wont? Any suggestions for me too?

Thanks....vini

Very interested in the recon box I have PM'd you but had no reply yet. give me a price, and throw in the torque converter just to be shore cheers
