Have I got a cat in hells chance?.............

got a laptop from PC World on Sunday with Vista Home Premium installed, I have managed to get a driver but when I select the correct port number the datascan software wont load and says error 8020.

Anyone have it running in Vista?

Cheers

I have read some threads about it not working in XP but my bro had it running on his xp dell laptop straight away last year, he no longer has that laptop though.

pretty sure i've had it running on vista. That was a long time ago now though.

OK big deep breath.

Uninstall Vista.

Install XP

Update XP

Install everything else and Update it.

Watch everything work

sory, but way too many people are having compatability issues with it, namesly anythng that isnt made by microsoft and specificaly for vista.

oh I know vista is crap, but to be totally honest this is the only time I've every had a legit version of windows, would like to keep it on really as I don't intend to use the laptop much and I may as well get used to it in small doses. I know nothing works on it as I installed it on my PC when I upgraded it 2 months ago, it lasted 20minutes before I formatted again, lol

Have you tried running in compatibility mode for XP SP2? Right click the icon, choose properties, click on compatibility and choose XP SP2.

Probably best to buy a cheap used laptop on ebay with XP already installed and just use it purely for datscan.? You don't need anything powerful to run it, so shouldn't have to pay more than £100 for an old one.

Just remember "old laptop = crap battery life" (unless you can find a new battery for it and they're generally not cheap!)

Yeah I know what you mean. My Fujitsu Siemens Lifebook's only holding charge for about an hour. Probably good enough for me at the moment though I suppose.

Suppose it's good as a garage tool rather than a mobile solution.

Yep tried xp,98 ect...

I got a new laptop cos I didnt want to get an ebay one with poor battery life and unknown condition. I actually borrowed a old laptop from a guy in work with the intention to buy and it did'nt even have the guts to run datascan, it sorted out my traction control though.

Try Microsoft Virtual PC - it's a free download and should solve the problem...

Just spent some time with it -

install drivers cp2101 not the 2101x

don't forget to change the com port (3 was default) under the device manager.

Connected straight away :-)
