when i removed the pipe the car ran great, it didnt try and stall when i pulled away, the tick over was spot on

can i drive the car without the pipe attached, till i get the prob sorted

This might not be much help but on my 90 NA that pipe operated the gurgling AIVs under the wheel arches. I removed them and blocked-off the pipe. Pipe blocked or unblocked it made no difference to the engine performance.

Therefore if unblocking yours means the car runs better, it could mean that another source of air into the balance bar is blocked causing the trouble - and the pipe you have removed is not the faulty item, nor the cure...

Good luck

Taking that pipe off is a quick fix to get the emissions down at the mot station, maybe car is overfuelling? sorry I'm a bit crap lol

did your boost gauge work after? LOL

its the stock feed for the boost gauge

boost gauge has never worked, always just sat in the middle, car did run better

also when pipe attached, if i rev it and let the revs drop (in nuetral) the engine would nearly stall, but not with the pipe dissconected

it could be a blocked or sticking air bypass valve,at the back of plenum by the batt, with you taking off the pipe its let air bleed into plenum to correct a/f ratio for a correct idle

Does the car run just as well if you plug up the removed pipe?

never tried it bud, will have a go tomorrow

deffo sounding like something is blocked

air bypass vavle????, any pics of this and how would i remedy this

its behind here allan

do you mean air idle valve, it has the yellow connector and a grey one on it, im getting a buzzing noise (sounds like a quiet fuel pump noise) from that area

your balance bar will probably be clogged up take it off not a big job and give it a good internal clean you will be able to get a cleaning fluid that you can spray or pour through it and you will find that is the most probable cause

the AAC valve at the back of the plenum on pass side can also stick i had this prob and cleaned balance bar then took the AAC valve off and cleaned that to never had any bother since.

havent had a lok yet, but out of curiosity, would any of these being faulty make my car use a lot more fuel????

possibly if air mix aint correct due to sticky valve etc

check there aint a hole in the tank first lol

The AAC valve in old money is the choke. If it's stuck, it's like driving with the choke fully out - so yes, you'll get poor running and very poor fuel economy (not a word commonly used on this forum).

Take it off, squirt with WD40, rattle it about to make sure it's loose (insides) and put it back on...

Good luck

...and if you have a hole in your fuel tank or filler kneck, let me know as I've both sat in the garage doing nothing...

Cheerz
