You wont believe this, I bought a rover 216 convertable in white from a TW*T of ebay who claimed it was mint..... went down and low and behold it looked like one of the nicest convertables of the class I have seen, with 17inch rims on.

Started the honda engine which had only done 90,000 miles and it purred like a kitten.

So ...Bargain!!!!!!!

Got it home..next day drove it down to the bottom of the road to pick up some parts for the zx and BANG!!! engine gone.

After checking out the obvious and thinking that these engines just dont go!! took the head off and found a 1/3rd of a stanley blade..when the engine engine was checked out thoroughly the rest of the stanley blade was found!! it has warped two valves and imbedded itself into one of the pistons!!!!!

1000 pounds to mend this and the rear disks and a new brake calliper.

They had also put the wrong nuts on the wheels so the wheels were dangerous (very much so!!).

Not only that but they had drove the car on two front flats (these were new tyres!!) and damaged the walls big time plus cracked the 17 inch rims. Should i carry on or stop there??????????

this has obviously had head problems, like most of them, mainly with the rover engine. one of my neighbours has just finished doing the head on a 214 vert, but the rover engine, not white though. i dont know who has told you it would cost a £1000 to repair but they are daylight robbers. it wouldnt cost half that amount. personally, i would take it further. was it tested recently ?

the honda engines dont go, and my dad has been in the game for 40 years and obviously knows his stuff, the stanley blade damaged everything. you can imagine something like that rattling around whilst driving 100 miles home. the 1000 pound is for everything including the engine, callipers, discs fron tyres and 2 new alloys.

but I got on the phone to the geezer who sold it me, and he new about all the problems including the fact that there was a stanley blade in the fuc*ing engine.

howd you mean he knew, in what context did the twat know????

he had done work on the engine and lost his stanley blade, couldnt find it so put everything back together and flogged it from a different address.

in all fairness to ebay... that could have happened in any private sale... though i agree you do get a lot of crap on ebay, i think its only natural to see a lot of crap due to the sheer mass of the market... and sh!t sticks! though iv had plenty of bargains off ebay and some top quality stuff, so il be still using it regularly. with it being a very cheap way to advertise also would prolly contribute to the amount of 'ripping off' thats done :)

:headvswal @ your case though bud, if he later admitted that he knew it was in there and thats why he sold it, he needs a good pasting!

Shame you didn't record him admitting to it? Surely there's some case for taking it further though? your statutory rights and all that. Especially as he's knowingly sold something that was knackered and potentially dangerous.

did he even apologise or offer to pay you SOME of the money back at least?? :xxx:

That honda engine does fail, was left stranded on the M4 about 6 months back when rod went through the block on a mates Rover coupe.

He fitted new engine, and sold the car on....and new engine blew up as well LOL

Obviously not the case in this scenario though. Seller is a :xxx:

Dont pay £1000 though, you can pick up complete 216's for £50 with good engines.

its done now,

but to top it off i went to put the spare tyre of the rover onto my merc and found that he had slashed the new spare with a stanley blade!!!!!! no doubt the same stanley blade.

trust me if i didnt live 130 mile from him he would be in a wheelchair right now!!!!

and that aint a lie!

but the car overall has only cost about 1600 quid and it is now mint and as soon as the ****ing sun comes out, and get the top down i will feel much better.
