I moved to Canada from the UK two years ago now but I’ve only just got round to shipping the Z over. I had the car shipped to Halifax on the East coast of Canada, about 3300Km from my new home in Winnipeg.

The car has always been maintained to the highest standard and it’s never let me down yet so I wasn’t too concerned about reliability. I organized a few spares just incase with a decent tool selection.

My journey basically started in Halifax, Nova Scotia. The route I decided to take wasn’t the shortest but probably the best roads and scenery. I followed the Trans Canada highway through Nova Scotia and New Brunswick. Into Quebec past Quebec City and Montreal. On through Ontario, with a stop in the Capital Ottawa. We then headed to the border and crossed into the USA taking us through Michigan along the edge of Lake Superior passing into Minnesota before the final leg backup to Manitoba in Canada.

I’ll have to give a massive credit to the 300zx, I still can’t believe after a 15 hour stretch I didn’t have the slightest sign of any aches. I’ve taken the Z on some long drives through Europe but nothing like this. My friend who shared the driving was amazed at the comfort and power, basically chewing up any form of muscle car that even tried to take us on. Averaged about 24MPG at 80MPH although the speed limits in Michigen are lower I managed a tank of fuel at 30.4 MPG averaging about 60MPH. First time I've ever seen that from my Z!!

The Journey wasn’t without glitches though. When we hit Ottawa it was pouring down with high humidity at 30 degrees. The car started bogging down and came to a stop in a petrol station. First time it’s ever broken down in the 8 years I’ve had it!! A quick diagnosis through up a code 12. I gave the Plug on the MAF good clean and a re-seal and she ran like new again for the rest of the journey.

I also managed to blow out a front tyre in a small town called North bay. Luckily we just caught a tyre shop before closing and they had one 18” second hand tyre left. I don’t normally buy part worns but had no choice and it got us home safely.

A few pics from the trip

A familier sight and stopping point. More V power. Nice at 49p a litre. Dropped to 39p a litre in the USA

On into Quebec, more kick ass roads.

More V power in north bay. Seconds before I hit a very large random rock while turning blowing out an almost new Eagle F1.

Now that looks like fun :hyper: at least having your car over there will mean you,ll be re-registering it so your original plate can be flushed down the loo !!

I didn,t recognise those grey strips your driving on at first cos the ones we have are full of holes and patches everywhere :headvswal

Keep on zedding bud

Hi there :duffer:

Good to see your post. Pics look great. They make the UK look S**t....

Must be nice to have the Zed back the roads look good. How did you get on with speeding on your trip ?

nice one

i must say the z is a cracking touring car and is v.comfortable did the france/belgium drive through and never complained once about comfort

How jealous am I. excellent bud, keep us updated.

Nice photos, reminds me of Canada when I stationed at Base Gagetown on New Brunwick for six months several years ago.

The Zed looks good and glad you had a good journey

Fantastic mate!!! Nice to see the UK plates over there! Should have affixed a 'GB' sticker to the back windscreen too! hehe

What's the time limit for keeping UK plates on then? 3 months isn't it?

'IF' ever I manage to move out to the US, then my Z will be coming with me too!

I bet it was so strange driving your own car that far away from where you used to have it.

quality pics mate. looks like an amazing drive. must be a bit cheaper fr the fuel out there too :D

Thanks for the remarks.

No problems with speeding but the highways are littered with state troopers in their interceptors with bull bars on the front

Speed limits in Canada vary but 70 MPH is normal. Usually cruised at 85MPH

I was pulled once by a cop but more curiosity being RHD and euro plates. Most North Americans have never left the contenent so have never seen RHD or funny reflective number plates before. Gets tons of attention!!

No real limit as to how long I can drive on Euro plates, I just have temp insurance which require a certificate in the front window. Its a bit more expensive than regular insurance but I've had them on my BMW for 6 months now. Means I cant get caught by speed cameras as they only record the VIN on the car :hyper: Mind you I quite like the local plates so will do it eventually.

It is weird having the car here how after hardley using it for two years. Feels like Ive gone back in time a bit. There was so much more I wanted to do the car, I may get round to it now, cheep parts at last!!

Nice one! I'm dead envious! Although currently arranging a possible road trip into Arizona with some of the LAZ32 guys. Unfortunately I won't have my Z, but they will! LOL
