Don't you love it when something that you think will cost a lot of money to repair...

...ends up costing a tenner!

I've had a nasty rattle coming from the centre box of my beloved Veilside exhaust system. Pretty loud and was starting to do my head in!

I had thought it was a baffle in the centre box that had somehow broken away from its welds. It was terrible when cold and as the car warmed up would get less.

Now, this had been going on for some months now. Had the car up on the ramp, managed to narrow it down to the centre box after giving it a thwack with the palm of my hand.

Anyway, had it all booked into Infinity Exhausts to have the centre boxes replaced, like-for-like (sound wise).

Up on the ramp, guy asks me, "are you sure it's not the cats?". "No I said, it's definately coming from the centre boxes". To which he said "Mmmmm, something's telling me your centre boxes are fine". So he starts the car up again and has another fiddle around underneath.

"Not your centre boxes mate, they're fine, it's this...!".

It turns out that the little bracket that acts as a brace between the two boxes had split. One had come away and was rattling on the outside of the box. So it was re-welded (better than Veilside!) and now it is back to being nice and rattle free...and stronger. :)

£10 was duly handed over and was on my merry way! Saved me £180 anyway! LOL

Not to mention having a "that is one clean 300zx" comment passed to me as well. :)

Yeah, was quite chuffed they were honest enough to give it a thorough check over in that fashion.

Great that they were so honest with you. Top marks to Infinity Exhausts I reckon. Do they make custom exhausts up then? I would like to find a quieter setup for mine but because its 100mm all the way through no-body does them that big and the only thing to do it get it custom made.

Car hire in California I think... lol

Actually no, I'm putting away a little bit each month in readiness for this... plus I also want to get the bumpers resprayed at the end of the year as there's a few marks and blemishes I'm not happy with.

Been recommended them by quite a number of people and as you can see PJ uses them too.

Not seen any of their stuff first hand, but have heard nothing but praise by people.
