just wondering how far i can push the limits with my standard engine, im sure i read somewhere around 400bhp is as far as you can go without sacrificing reliability, i was wanting to upgrade to 555's but i already have upgraded tubs and intercoolers, chip, exhaust and induction kit so i musn't be far off that mark, i want more power but dont want an expensive repair bill!! :(

stock injectors & tubs are good for around 400bhp @ the fly, after that they will max out.

so to get any more you will need at least uprated tubs & injectors.

Internals have been proven to be good for about 600ish, but that is obviously in good condition! as most of our cars are old & worn now at the very least forged pistons are going to be needed if pushing 500+!

but hey! you pays your money & takes your choice!! :D

manual will obviously need a clutch to hold that power, auto will need a clutch to hold that power & a manual conversion! :p (or a fast road rebuild ;) )

so i could run my 110,000 mile z at abot 400 without too much problems?

mines got 120k on & been running at ~400 fwhp for years now! :)

the cars only done 47k and i got hks tubs nd uprated intercoolers, so i should be ok to go for 555's nd more boost?

i know this reply is gunna bite my ass but run mine hard on standard internals for allmost 3 years now,oil change every 1000 mile, (no lie) best fuel, and make sure cooling system is spot on with best anti-freeze and its an auto :smash: heres the proof

im a mechanic so im always on top of underbonnet levels etc and its always run on optimax, are you still on standard injectors?

yea but ime very very close to maxed out, having said that full boost is a rare occasion kept for the nova, saxo nobheads :)

so i could run around 16-17psi without melting owt?

  i mean from past experience its usually ok in the hands of a respectable driver ;)

you can do what you want with your car. Oter people have run the numbers you have quoted, but I wouldnt take the advice of some bloke you dont know from adam on an internet forum as gospel, when it comes to the reliablity and cost of a car.

run it, if it goes booom, then its not possible. if its ok, then its fine.

i tried turning the boost up via the boost controller but anything past 14psi doesnt feel very smooth, like a slight misfire/hesitation/detonation in a couple of sections in the rev range as the revs rise while driving hard, not sure whether its the chip im using, may not be mapped for more than 1bar? if its kept around 14psi acceleration is smooth and just doesnt feel like it wants to stop! :D

All injectors should not go past 80% duty cycle or they become unrelable in their dosage as they are working too hard, you only want them to run lean once on an engine going full chat and tata one cylinder!

At 15psi they are maxed out so 555's would be an expensive way but nice if you want to protect your engine a little more.

You say you have upgraded turbos, what is upgraded about them?

Agree with Mark. I ran 1 bar on standard tubs/injectors/coolers for a couple of years. It was only when I fixed a couple of boost leaks, she started to boost up to 17psi and I was getting quite bad det :(

Stock setup = max 1 bar (if all else is in good nick) IMO

i agree, 14.5psi is plenty for a stock setup. if you have cash waiting for a rebuild then you can afford to see how far you can push your luck. if not, don't be tempted

just my 2p - but i wouldnt be running 1 bar on stock injectors and upgraded turbos - as has been said before stock injectors max out at 14psi on stock injectors - get some 555's

alex

That hesitation is your engine pleading with you not to do that agin. If you realy want to get up above 14psi then youl need 555. If you tubs are uprated, then you should be ok (and we are only talking about boost and not boom here) past 15psi maybe to 20 psi.

You only have to have 1 lean cycle at full rev limit and youl be looking for a mew engine.

they dont max out at 14psi! they max out at around 15.5 to be pedantic about it. :wack:

people forget though, that its not just about engine tune. But clogged faulty injectors can cause similar problems, so you take your chance whatever you do.

555s are worth the extra revenue, but harldy worth it on stock t25s to be fair.

my personal opinion 14 psi is too much on stock tubs - to much chance to lean out - other people may have different opinions

once i sell my uk auto tt im getting some 555's, the gf told me i had to when i was struggling to keep up with an audi rs4 ( didnt get too far ahead i mite add) cocky git had the cheek to wave bye bye to me before he had even put his foot down, i had 3people plus me in the car so i dont think the car did too bad considerin he only got around 3 car lengths ahead of me then realising he wasnt losing me he started weaving in and out of traffic so at that point i let him go the :xxx:

as for the turbos i was told when i bought the car it had hks turbos on so i looked into it and found out that standard/hybrids have four bolts holding the down pipe on and upgraded tubs have five, mine have five so im guessing they're upgraded items.
