My gear stick has suddenly started feeling really loose and wobbly, it changes gear fine (apart from the occasional grind) but no matter what gear your in the stick is really loose/wobbly

any ideas?

If you don't have a short shifter this is a good time to get one as you have to remove the stick to fit bushes. A half decent short shifter of flee bay will come with bushes. The short shifters are really nice for quick changes.

these ebay short shifters iv just noticed, come with the shaft and gearknob attached, any1 know if the knob can be removed and replaced with the standard one?

I got a genuine Nismo shifter some guy had bought and never fitted, but a mate of mine bought a chrome shifter with a chrome knob and it was almost identical to the Nismo I'd bought. The knob has to come off because the shifter has to split to pass through the knuckle bearing. Then the upper outer shaft slides back over the inner shaft to hold the whole thing together.

 

You'll see what I mean.

Just a side note...

 

A mate of mine bought an el-cheapo s/shifter from fleabay, and it snapped a while later leaving a spikey pointy metal death shifter. I plan to get one as well, but am not keen on ebaying too much after that! I think Fidanza do one for 55squid, anyone got any experience with one of these? Or have most people been alright with ebay sshifters?

The problem with flee bay is that some of the stuff on there are copies of copies and the quality is crap. The one in the link looks just like the one Will Bought minus the knob, it don't mean its the one there selling Though this sellers stuff is usually OK.
