Shippers came the other day and I had the quote today

£1700 to take the car plus import duties and GST (Aussie vat) 10%

1700 shipping

300 import duty

200 GST

and bits and bobs

so if I can't find a cheaper quote I will have to sell.

The difference between a 20' and 40' is £1700 and if i have two 20' it comes in a tad dearer.

I don't like the idea of roll on roll off, some spotty geek at the port going "Hey Bruce look what I got to drive, smokes them tyre well aye" (in an Aussie accent)

But if she does go then the wheels wil come off and the head unit.

Try Barrett Shipping on - 01375 407060 Kerrie is the lass you'll be speaking to. It didn't cost me 1100 inc. tax etc to get a zed from Japan....

Fit some floats to the side, take the targas off and paddle it across :D

Ship to where? Australia? Check out the import rules/regs. They've changed recently meaning you might not be able to register it over there.

£1700 is overpriced. Get in touch with MOL (Mitsui OSK car carrier division)

Thats sounds a bit steep.

I got a 20' container in from china in January and it only cost $800 USD shipping from Hong Kong to my unit.

Get a few more quotes bud but make sure you can get it priced inc delivery of container to your desination addy, they may be able to negotiate with the hauliers to reduce time and accumulated costs, also if you do it yourself and have any delays you will have demorage charges and they will be MUCHO EXPENSIVO!!!

I hope you get it sorted bud.

IMHO, only containerise it from Port of loading to port of discharge. Else you'll be lumbered with extra handling and transport fees.

what shipping company was that quote with dude, I'm a marine engineer, it will be cheaper going row row, but like you said someone has to drive it off, but its not as if they can go on a beano in your motor for the day, it will be confined to the port. you could try a general cargo ship, rather than a sole container ship, andrew wier do general cargo, they might be quite cheap, and open to negotiation.

Scrawni IIRC some bloke came on the forum a while back saying he,s taking his car to OZ but it had failed it,s MOT cos of the tyres being worn out , he needed some cheap worn replacements cos as it lands in OZ the tyres have to be scrapped and be replaced with ones bought over there , something to do with contamination and desease risks or sommat like that

Right sorry its late but I have been at work all evening, so I will try to answer a few of your questions.

We are going to Brisbane Australia and useing a company called P.S.S who we used last time we adventured, they are very good and rather cheap but this time the difference in container size came to about £1700. The cost of shipping all our house stuff out is about the same as 3 years ago for a 20' container but if we put it in a 40' with the car its that bit more.

Si I have looked into the regs for taking the car and I am ok on that side of things, but the cost is still a sticking point.

Do I focus on a new life and give the car up for a couple of years, i think so.

It is hard for me to say because I never thought we would be going back and started to look forward, with the car being a big part of my life and that made easier by being part of a great club with some realy top people, shit i'll be crying soon, but in order to move forward you have to let go right.

Anyway I will be finishing off the little jobs I started and selling.

its a shame bud, but i think what ur doin is best for u and ur family in the long run :) good luck with it all, it will have 1 lucky new owner :D if only i hadnt just bought another 1!

Cheers fella, I just wish I could have finished off my plans with it, they weren't big plans but more subtle and I was only about half way through.

I hope the next owner treats her with respect and she doen't get stripped for parts in six months cos they abused her.

Sod it I'm not giving up that easy

If she can spend over a grand to take a cat then I can take something worthwhile

if some one's going to drive it off the other end do what i did when i got some repair work done, unplug the MAF,unplud the det sensor and put a tamper seals over them, can't do much at 2500 rmp

Go direct with a carrier like MOL, NYK, Hual, Wallenius, rather than through a freight broker.

Z32s are dirt cheap in Oz and NZ. But I know what it's like, I'd want to ship mine over if I moved over there. Have the chance to go to NZ as it happens, but unsure etc.

I have already knocked a grand off the original quote and I'm waiting for a quote from Mitsui OSK as we speak.

I disagree with the cost of Z32s though mate, to replace mine would be about $20k upwards and thats about £8k, there are lots of 89-90 models but very few 93 TT manuels

Thought I saw them for a lot cheaper than that. I know they are only about £1500 to £2000 worth in NZ.

Let me know how you get on with MITSUI. We're the UK agents for them. Who did you speak to there, do you know?

I spoke to a guy who said Brian? wasn't at his desk but he will get back to me.

To be honest he was the third person I spoke to and I tend to switch off if I am not being dealt with direct.
