2 of my Z's had it removed before I bought them & I always wished they had it.

Sack o' shite - needs refilling every few years and you got the best aircon in the world - TARGAS ;)

but what are the benefits? are the power gains really worth it?

Main thought in my head is that big air con rad in front of the cooling rad, heats the biggest killer of these engines.

thats the initial saving, also with all the bits removed you shed a few kg aswell, but mainly the cooling side

i think a drop of up to 5degrees on a hot summers day is not unusual with the air con removed

and making sure your viscous fan is in good health

i like the aircon. i wouldn't want to get rid of it just for those humid days when i pi$$es it down. however, i would remove it if i could do something like run a supercharger off the aircon belt. think i've read somewhere on here it is possible.

The weight saving in my opinion is not an issue, its easier to run your zed on 1/4 tank of fuel than strip bits off.

As far as cooling yes maybe it helps not having the aircon rad there but you can achieve a plentyful amount of cooling by fitting a bigger rad and most importantly cleaning all the crap out of the aircon rad while your rad is out.

And if its economy you want you can always take the AC belt off.

My cars engine runs cooler and gets better air flow with it gone. Also as Andy says when you've got the targas off in the summer you don't need it.......oh and theres one less belt to drive so theres a tiny little bit more bhp

i would never get rid of it, its lovely. to be honest im not a fan of the targas, it might look cool but it doesent cool you down and its noisey and blustery!!

I like to keep everything that's fitted to the car. Otherwise you just have loads of redundant switchgear.

Not much point removing on a Standard or even mildly modified example, unless you never use it anyway. However if your going full out then its worth removing.

Unless you want to race the thing, I reckon the benefits far outweigh the drawbacks, but then I have an N/A so underbonnet temperature is less of an issue for me.

To me the Zed is more of a cruising car than a balls out sportscar anyway, but that maybe 'coz I'm an old *******...... :(

As for cost, it was £60 to get mine regassed last week so no biggie there.

I wouldn't buy a car without it to be honest and use mine a lot

I'd have to keep it.

It's too hot and stuffy in the summers here in the UK and in a luxury GT car like a 300zx it is an essential extra.

In fact I'd never have another car without it.

Richard :)

I have something to say............ It's better to burn out than to fade away..... :tt2:

not used mine for years , then was'nt regased for 2years so i knew mine was shagged, out it came.

amased at how much the aircon rad was blocking the main rad!!
