Just a quick question guys, i am running 15psi, does that mean 7.5 psi per turbo or 15psi each ??

Sorry if this seams a stupid question lol

So a total of 30 psi really, if a single turbo was to match the power it would need to push out 30 psi ?

thanks

No, sorry, you don't add the pressures... each turbo runs at 15 psi and the whole system runs at 15psi.

As for single turbo, it's much more complicated than that...

ah ok thanks, so roughly if i was going for a single turbo what sort of thing would be good for a proper 400bhp thanks.

Hmm..as I understand it, the pressure is equal throughout the system - both run at the same pressure, being measured at a single point on the intake side. 15 PSI is generated between the two tubs, they won't necessarily be running in perfect balance.

Hi to Rich666! Still not kicked the Z habit then!?

Andy Duffer - if you happen to see this, your mailbox is full, I was trying to PM you but it's not playing!!

Hello stranger! I did kick the habit, but then got interested again and started doing some trackdays... but then my steering rack snapped and fired me into the tyre wall!

Building up a new series 2 shell now... just struggling for time recently!! You keep yours in the end?

Yep, mirrors hanging off and covered in bird cr*p, not been used for a year or so but still starts on the button. Got a new house, driveway and yard now so big plans ahead ;-).

Bad luck with the rack mate! You still in Handbridge?? Sounds like you're gonna be streets ahead of me with your Z hat on - might have to tap your brain in the near future ;-)

Have a read of the attached files, they should give you some idea of how complicated it is to get this right.

ps. This isn't my work, just info i've picked up along the way!!! ;)

Sorry about the hijack ;) there's a few good books about on the ins and outs of turbos... have a scoot round amazon for a few. As for 400 bhp from a single turbo - why would you want to do it?? You'll easily get 400bhp from 2 (relatively inexpensive) turbos, with good spool characteristics compared to one larger and laggier turbo.

then you've got the cost of custom pipework...

You can use the manifold from the nissan cedric which was a single turbo vg30det and my turbos are on the way out, so a) thought i would try something different and b) i do an awful lot of round town driving and i find a laggy setup works well for me. + one turbo is cheaper than 2

thanks

same pressure throughout both systems :) 15psi all round

yep all helped by a simple device called a "ballance bar" ;)

I think you'll find it costs the same and gives you massive lag for your efforts - that's why it's only ever been done once or twice before LOL

When you can get 500+bhp with 2 smaller turbos why bother? Especially if you mainly drive round town

doing lots of driving around town with a heavy single turbo will also cost you more in fuel as you're engine will be working harder to spool it up, but will never get it up to speed. you're best bet would be to get you're current tubs refurbed (or do it yourself) or some T25's with 28 internals will be as big as you want to go.
