Chaps and Chapettes

As some will know im looking for another zed. Looking at the market there dont seem to be that many that match the criteria that ive set myself. Im not in a huge rush to get one, i just want to be as sensible as possible and find the illusive "right one"

Im going to guess that a few peeps, exculding the traders, have found a car in jap land and imported it themself, loosely speaking.

TBH i know sweet F A about what is involved in importing a car and the overall costs are, and was hoping someone would be able to give me an quick education in what is involved in importing a car, from the auction room to my arse being in the drivers seat.

Also for the peeps who have imported a car, which companies would you recommend ie shipping companies/"importers" and auction houses.

Advice and opinions all welcome

Oh something i forgot to add :headvswal

The reason ive said "exculding the traders" is because im going to guess that they have contacts and sources in the importing industry. This is something that I dont have and would like to know peoples experiences without these contacts.

But any input from the traders is more than welcome! :D

Ive imported 3 Zs & its alot of hassle really, prolly would do it again,

but your prolly aswell as doing via an agent or an specialist importer who have experience theres afew on this board.

Do a search on google plenty of guides out there ;) good luck

how do the costs balance out between buying a car already in the uk and importing one inc all costs involved?

hi nick pm me & i will give you my tel number

I have to agree with Rosco Migel at http://www.neweraimports.com is a top bloke. Knows his stuff and will make life very easy for you. He only deals in quality motors which is more than can be said for most.

I imported a Celica Gen7 TRD type S. I used Ben Linney but he no longer imports cars anymore.

Good importers will find out what you really want and then the they'll flag up anytime there is anything close to what you want coming up for sale. They'll send you a full Jap aution spec and grading. Which is very detailed + they send pictures. you then decide your going for it and place your deposit. Then wait. They SVA it and get anything done that needs doing for UK MOT.

If your looking for a car less than 10 years old it will fall under the new regs. This means it will have to be completely standard to get a SVA. older than 10 years and Mods are not a problem.

i have literally just got off the phone to neweraimports... they service they offer looks excellent, the only thing that worries me is that you put all your trust in them to buy the one for you... you only find out what you are gettin once they have bought it! as markzx said and i had the impression that you would be sent photos to consider before the auction but according to them this is not the case, they buy what they think (from your specification) you want and then send you details.

any further advice on this matter from any1 would be appreciated, some1 should make a post like this in the FAQ's section and sticky it :)

Before you all rush of to other Importers  ....we have our own 300zx specialist Importer !! - Import-ance in traders section

Also if you search through some of my old posts you will see that I use a very specialist agent to check my vehicles, (Andrew Gray of Power Vehicles), and infact we walk away from a lot ZX's in Japan because they are simply not upto scratch!!
