should i sell and get a golf vr6?? or am i being stupid

dont think i can justify spending £65 a week on fuel alone and the longer i own it the more chance i have of incurring a big bill. I was only doing 8 miles a day to work and back but now im up to around 60 and cant afford to drive the z as a daily drive.

Would i hate a vr6?? Anyone ever owned one, or anyone think of a similar car i could go for??

cheers

They are greedy bitches arn't they, but it's always been the case. The ones that look hot and horny always cost more. Yet the quiet looking ones with glasses are always actually the hotest. the most satisfying, but don't look as cool.

how about a VR6 corrado?? better looking & slightly more power too. always liked them as a thrash-about TBH :)

I once managed to get from ashby de-la zouch to cornwall in my NA zed at 62mph on cruise control on half a tank which worked out at 36mpg.

I was impressed but it took a loooooooong time

Any car with a big engine is gonna be heavy on fuel whether its 3 litre twin turbo or 2.8 VR6. If your doing 60 miles a day do what I do and buy a diesel and have the Zed as a weekend car ;)

Exactly what he said.......

.........If you're concerned about your ZX's fuel consumption then a VR6 is not really going to help you much either. On paper some of the bigger engined BMWs appear pretty efficient for a 3 litre (eg the E36 M3 :x: ) but I don't know how much they really drink.

Best keep your ZX and look at a VW turbo diesel - you can buy an ex-fleet Passat for not much wedge - less than a Golf TDi anyway ;).

I had to go up to Darlington last year to retrieve a Passat from a salesman I sacked. It was a 55 plate 1.9TDi (130ps) Highline. I filled it with Diesel at Scotch Corner and drove all the way home (South Bucks) at 90-100mph and it didn't even use 1/4 of the tank........damn thing was returning around 50mpg+

Richard :D

I have something to say............ It's better to burn out than to fade away..... :tt2:

id been looking at a smart car :x:

they return 50+mpg but they are tiny and at 6'5" it might be tricky..

i have bitten the bullet and put it on ebay. my uncle had a vr6 and he reckoned he got about 23 urban and around 29 motorway. not much better but an improvement.

To be honest i dont think i earn enough to fully appreciate a zed. im always looking at everyone elses cars on here and wishing mine was as good or as quick etc...

Then i have to budget for an engine rebuild at some point plus general maintenance.

And its always in the back of my mind "what if something goes wrong"

VW's are pretty bullet proof and tend to do 160k miles if well maintained.

Im definately going to get a zed as a weekend car sometime in the future when the funds are looking better. The car puts a smile on my face like no other car has. Ive owned 3 mr2;s one turbo 255bhp and a 250bhp audi tt. Nothing goes like the zed..

I dont think your going to see any real savings on fuel.

About same as a zed TT really, depends how you drive it. Can get over 30mpg quite easily on motorway...and low 20's is about average for urban.

If you floor it everywhere then you get low teen figures...but thats no different for the VR6

i had a mk 3 golf gti and thought it was really good. fun in the corners and i could get more than 30mpg out it. in fact i got 40 mpg at one point. was on the trip computer tho and i don't know how accurate it was.
