My new zed has a really bad vibration throught the steering wheel and the whole car when braking. Its noticable after 40 but really bad after 60-70. Im starting to notice it whilst driving at about 60 when not even braking. I am really struggling to have fun in the car as i have no confidence in it. The garage assures me it doesn't have warped disks.

The vibration is from the front end.

Any ideas or similar problems???

Sounds like warped front discs to me. Had the same thing, fitted new front discs now all is good.

If it was warped discs he would feel it as it slow down. The most likely cause is tension rod bushes as already mentioned. Can't remember the cost off hand. I bought some second hand ones for £35 (think I still have them as I sold the car and hadn't used them), new are a little bit more. Other possibilities is the steering rack bushes but not so likely.

Definately the tension rod bushes are shot.

If it was warped disks you would feel it at slow speeds and it certainly wouldn't show up when you're not braking.

You can get new uprated bushes from Z Centre or Nissan ones from MJP in the traders section on here.

They're about £45 I seem to remember.

you dont always feel warped discs at lower speeds, so could still be them.

when you get the vibration is it through the steering, the body of the car or can you feel a pulse through the brake pedal ???

I think I may have a set of bushes, brand new oem versions. Never used them. They're yours for the cost of postage if I can find them as I no longer have a 300.

Let me know.

Cant agree with that. I has exactly the same problem and new discs cured it. No vibration at all when braking at lower speeds and at around 70mph there was definate vibration.

Not ruling out tension rod bushes though. :D

front brake discs, have the garage check with dial gauge to check discs.

Put it this way, after 6 years on this forum I've seen that 90% of these problems turn out to be a cheap set of tension rod bushes after people have changed a few hundred quids worth of disks and pads ;)

With disks you feel it through the pedal quite bad, but if the whole car is shuddering like he said and it does it when he's not even on the brakes then it's pretty unlikely to be disks IMHO

have a look at your wheel balancing....?? it mit be that..???

..

Had the same problem myself.so after skimming the disks and fitting new pads the vibration was still as bad.got some new tension rods and this did the trick.bushes are the cheapest so i would start with them first and then maybe the disks.

The vibration is through the steering not the brake pedal. The car shakes so badly though that i probably wouldn't feel the brake pedal pulsating anyway.

Thank you for tha help

Tension rod bushes without a doubt...

You say your car is new as in new to you. Is it a recent import? If so you may find its your tyres. Most cars coming from Japan have sat for anything up to 6 months on the docks in the heat waiting for shipping. The tyres become flattend and out of shape and cause the symtoms you describe.

When I imported my TRD there was a strike (the first ever) The car was at the docks for 3 months. When i got the car I thought the wheel bearings were knackered. but all was well. The car was only 15 month old so was all under warrenty with Toyota. They changed all sorts and still the same. Then a guy I know who had imported a newish car himself told me to try the tyres.

Even if the car as been of the road in the UK this can happen.

Unfortunately they will not round of with driving and would need replacing.

Give em a visual check and feel round them. Drop a wheel off at a time and roll it on a smooth surface and youe see. it cost nothing to check.

tension rods being changed isn't a bad Idea anyway on a car of this age. You can get ajustable rods with rose joint for under £80 these days.

Hi James

Did you ever get this sorted?

Mine are vibrating and i've changed the tension rod bushes and no joy.

Thinking it might be the discs now???
