Courtesy Nissan have quoted a shipping price for their 'new from factorymanual gearbox priced at $1935.95 with the uprated internals'!

 

They say they can ship it to me for $700 which gives a grand total of $2635.35. At the current exchange rate this equates to £1,363.56...

 

What to you reckon the import tax will be?

Do you reckon it would be worth the money?

Is there any difference in the box from a US z to a UK/JDM z?

Going by the smaller stuff i've been stung by customs on, you're probably looking at adding about 25% on top.

Like Baz said, if customs see it (hard to miss!) they'll slap about 25% on including handling charges etc.

You can fit a lot of used boxes for that money.

Although they state 'uprated' internals I suspect what that actually mean is the latest internals that Nissan used as of 1996 or whatever. This is probably the same as both Macca and I have. He has still had synchro probs although mine has been fine. Of course, he's running a little more power than me !!

I bought my brand new one through my main dealer and is cost me a little over £1500. Took 4 weeks to arrive though!

 

With regards to import tax, I believe they add 17.5% to the total value of the goods, then add a 'handling' fee - which usually works out about £30.

So the £1364 suddenly becomes £1633(ish) !!

There should be import duty too, can't remember whether it's 6% or 10%, but the VAT will be on top of that too, so 25% or more in tax is quite likely !

Ipswich (Glyn Hopkins) dealer. To get the extra discount, the gearbox was put on the trade order - hence the delay, and the chap there was able to take a few more % off or being an all round nice chap :)

I would certainly ask Mike Feeney about this. I'm sure that he could do you a better deal that a main stealer ;)

Funny thing is that I had a spare manual box a few months ago and I had to virtually give it away ... :(

Quite possible actually! Turns out the Parts guys know him quite well since he often orders stuff through them and gets a little extra discount because he's a trader with an account with them!
