I'm in the "will I or won't I sell it" stage which im sure a lot of you have gone through. Main reason is business has been quiet since january and it's putting a strain on the finances bigtime. I guess it will work itself out later in the year but for now my family come first. But jesus I LOVE this car so much it would be heartbreaking to sell it. On one hand i'm telling myself it's an un-necessary luxury, on the other I remember all the time and hard work i've put into it not to mention the money i've spent (when I wasn't self employed!) which i will never get back. What the hell do I do???????? mothball it? Go through weeks of tyre kicking by people in baseball caps and tatoo's who'll tell me a 91 zed isn't worth more than a couple of grand? And then regret selling it for below it's value and find next year when i have a few bob(hopefully) go to buy one and have to start over i can't find a decent one....

A family member recently helped me out, but recommended I "got rid of the car!?" and he wasn't referring to the wife's old volvo. Thing is trying to explain to someone that a 16 year old japanese car that I now only drive at weekends is NOT a financial burden is difficult when it looks like a ferrari/lambo, and sounds like the ground is splitting when she starts up.

No doubt all you peeps will advise me not to sell. A problem shared is a problem halved though :)

I had mine up for sale a wee while ago, but changed my mind within a week.

I have never done that before with a car. I reckon since you're asking, that means you still have a chice.

In other words, don't let it go unless you're missing mortgage payments and the family can't eat.

You'll just end up bitter and seeking revenge on anyone who ever cursed it.

That's exactly my problem. The big worry of regret that I sold it . I'm not exactly at the stage where the mortgage is in trouble yet but it's a possibility in the near future. It's just that decent 300's are becoming a lot harder to find. I don't wan't the risk factor on buying again.

Similar thing happened to me. The car was completely paid for and I was self employed for 3 years. As it is when your self employed, finances fluctuated and the same thought went through my mind. Ended up that I just garaged the car for 2 years and brought her out again when I had some money. My car was standard when I garaged her and I am only starting to put money in now but there was no way I could sell the car as a short term fix to any financial problems.

Its the car that keeps us sane when everyone else is going nuts :D

Dont sell her mate, i sold my 1992 swb man targa jspec and almost cryied when the spotty twat wheelspun away after buying her. I have now got a better one now but boy did it take me a while after funds where better to find another one. Just stick with it, maybe park it up and use a shitty diesel car for £500 quid until funds are better.

Good luck mate

I sold my blue zed in September for peanuts after spending thousands on upgrading the engine/gearbox/brakes/suspension and fitting TC. after 4 months of driving a different sporty car (alfa GTV) I was pulling my hair out for more power.

I regretted selling my Zed every day, and now I am back to square one and will have to spend all that money again to get this car to the same level!

All in all, it will be cheaper to keep it, as nothing will give you the grin factor of a zed. Look at how many people sell up, only to buy another within a year! I did a quick look and found loads!

Take it off the road for a while like I have.

I should have sold it a year ago but I've spent so much time and money on it I refuse to do it when I know I'd want another Z when I was back in the money.

If you've got a garage or drive you might even be able to get away without taxing and insuring it and if the car is paid for then it's costing you nothing.

Get a runabout for a couple of hundred quid if you need another car - the savings in Z petrol will pay for that in a couple of weeks.

Just work out whats more important to you fella. Your house/livelyhood or the Zed?

Yeah you'll only get a few grand for it but thats a good few months of mortgage you know is covered.

But as they say "The choise, is yours!"

Way I look at it, is 4 or 5k really worth selling it for? how badly do you need it. We've been really strapped for the last 4 or so months and I've just stashed the car in the garage until I can sort what needs doing. I don't expect to have any money for at least another few months. Stupidly I didn't stop the insurance as I've always got the hope in the back of my mind that I'll get it out but if I did it would save some more money each month. Maybe that would sort you out?

I don't think you gain much by getting rid , but it definately helps if you take it off the road so you arn't chucking money into it all the time.

I would never struggle along for the sake of a bit of Tin

I have sold up and started again over the years when times have been hard

Family First, Toys second

Pop it out of sight for a bit and concentrate on getting some money back and you'll be back in it sooner than you think.

If you sell it you'll lose a load of money and then waste more if you end up buying another and its a duffer

i know its not really what you started out, but if you do decide then let me know. im not spotty, im not a chav and i wont wheel spin away in your car. Just thought that if you do decide to sell and dont want the hassle of tyre kickers then please get in touch.

If i was in the same situation i would do as has been mentioned already. By a crappy little diesel that will cost you a 1/4 in fuel that the zed does. Run that until you are back on your feet, and you never know you might save enough money from running a diesel that you find you have money for yourself and your zed.

Whatever you decide, im sure you will agree that our families health and welfare are always more important than what is essentially a piece of metal.

All the best

I think putting it to bed is what i'm going to do for now. Insurance is up and i havn't taxed it for this year yet. It's So true, wheres a few grand going to get me anyway? Things might pick up, we're not on the breadline yet. I now believe selling it would only be a short term solution ,so that's it she's staying put in my backyard until i can afford to put her on the road again.

Advice much appreciated from everyone, you've made me think more clearly about it.

hi,i mick i kinda know where your coming from, when i became self employed the weeks i got any kinda wage were a bonus, i know over here everything is getting more expensive and mortage rates going up etc, if you sell if will be short term gain if you had spent the money that the car cost you on a holiday or gambled it there would be nothing to sell now. family should come first of course but why not garage it for a year nd then see be a long time before you find one as nice, just think of all the tramore twin cam boys you would have visiting, take care
