Had a little play with a scooby sti tonight and I can't get over how shite my brakes are. I know this is the case with most 300zx's.

On previous cars such as my S14a I've had brembo discs, ds2500 pads and goodridge lines. This setup seemed to work well.

Where is the cheapest place to buy them for the zed?

That is a misconception really - the brakes are fine when they are working properly.

It's just that on a high performance car weighing over 1.5 tonnes age and use eventually takes its toll. If you have your calipers overhauled it will make all the difference - afterall the originals are 13 years old+

The stock discs can warp after a few 100-0 stops though so aftermarket ones are always better - 3g slotted discs are a decent upgrade for not too much cash.

Richard :)

I have something to say............ It's better to burn out than to fade away..... :tt2:

ya until i got to a corner

Its not yer brakes, its yer suspension at fault then!!

I struggled to brake quick enough for the corner. Thought I was going to end up in a hedge. The brakes are not very sharp on this at all so i'll have to search for a good deal on some discs+pads.

When I brake fairly hard I seem to get a kind of "pfffft" sound from the pedal?

The brakes feel quite spongey and you really have to plough your foot into the bulkhead to get it to stop.

Any ideas?

Could be air in the system or old fluid boiling.

I'd bleed fresh dot 4 though.

i have found since fitting my adjustable upper link arms and adjustable tension rods my brakes have improved immensely. the suspension is actually holding in place giving a much more solid feel to braking.

I have arms and rods. I think a change of fluid is on the cards and possibly some stainless steel braided lines.

Agreed with Gaz. Poor braking is often a cause of shagged suspension. New tight suspension gives less travel, meaning a more positive and direct feel when braking.

A big difference can be had from new fluid, as others have said. And no matter what you do later you will need new fluid, so do it first.
