First off I have to say to paul at SWZ that you did a admirable job ( just putting up with me today) on the conversion mate, I take my hat off to you( if i was the hat wearing type).

Second, to the people who think autos are better , you are clearly deluded and need to go to see a psychiatrist to end your delusional behaviour, I picked my now manual Z up from SWZ today and find it hard to put into words how I feel but will try.

When I started driving away I wasnt that impressed, it didnt feel sharper or quicker than before, I had fitted a EBC before taking it in and hadnt had a chance to set it up properly so decided to use the 150 mile trip on the way home to do this, the problem was the boost was "pulsing" so I first tried raising the gain but this only slightly corrected it and ended up with spikes, then tried altering the opening psi of the wastegate to 0psi to see what happened , it got worse, so decided after thinking whilst i was driving if i raised the opening boost of the wastegate to 6psi and adjust the gain from there to dial in to my set boost it should work, OMFG the manual came into its own, the way it is accelerating is immense, I am back to being scared when i accelerate again( this is just at 9psi the low setting) , the way it is climbing up the speedo is how my auto accelerated at 14psi.

I can put some of this down to having a closed wastegate till 6psi as you get a immediate full boost till the EBC controls it but I feel the way it accelerates with the manual is harsher and more immediate.

All in all im a very happy chappy and if anyone is thinking of a manual conversion then do it, even better get paul to do it.

would the ebc keeping the wastegate closed till 6psi really make this big a difference bud, its like when i first got in the car on the test drive, awe inspiring , and thats just at 9psi.

No its the fact that the engine is directly connected to the wheels rather than through a slush puppy, sorry torque convertor ;) TC lockup only occurs in higher gears so the lower speed acceleration will be far better :)

really cant understand why nissan ever fitted a auto in this machine

for the americans. they can't use stick shift lol

Glad you're happy with it bud :) I drive both day in day out and can honestly say the manual actually feels safer as well as drive better. The uncertainty of what the 'box is going to do next is very un-nerving - esp when its someone elses car LOL

Just got back from cambridge with my new project. Im glad your happy kev and will see you tomorrow at the meet to get my phone back LOL.

Agreed. I hate autoboxes full stop, except in stop start traffic and then they're great - but who buys a zed to drive in stop start traffic?

I really really hope so

had mine done 3 weeks back...performance is the same bit slower off the line getting a short shifter may help...as duff says feels safer...sounds a lot different

i though my auto felt faster than my manual, but the found out the engine in my manual was a gonner. So when i get my manual back im hoping to feel the difference :)

How much does an auto to manual conversion cost? It means I can open my options and buy an auto then convert it, as there seems to be heeps of autos in import garages!

Anyone living in UK for 99% of their driving LOL

Well mine now has an OS Giken Triple Plate clutch in it, try that in stop start traffic hehehe! I still love it, but old people look at you funny when you pull away with a bit of wheelspin LOL :) still love it though!!

Oh mine was not converted by the way but just posted as I know how good manuals are !!

My first zx was an auto but it was seriously shagged(btw how you getting on with it Andy?) so I cant really comment on the differences between the 2 but I would never go back to one in a zed its definately the wrong box for this car.

lol@SidewaysSteve: - I have a Stage 3 XTD clutch in mine and it gets very unhappy in traffic Queue`s.
