Anything that helps the seal between the head and the block has to be good :)

Ive only just voted and yet theres three votes from me

maybe your typing finger has a stammer

Were there any fitting instructions with the gasket ?. if it recommends copper spray then use it, if not I would be wary as the grease could have the tendancy to hydraulic when tightening down the gasket, allowing the correct torque to be obtained. but with the engine running afterwards the heat could then affect the grease thining it or burning it therefore altering the thickness of gasket causing a loss of torquing effort of the head bolts, which could lead to gasket failure, tracking and possible head damage.

Thats only my opinion, but if I had to use something I'd look for a specialised sealer..... something along the lines of hylomar

This is copper SPRAY not copper anti-seize compound ;) Kind of makes a bond between the two. Thinking about it also, with it being copper it will also improve block-head heat transfer which is only a good thing IMO

Decisions decisions, lol.........i know my cars gonna fook up again..... :headvswal

Yeh I saw he said copper spray, but the only copper spray that I ever had dealings with was basically just a spray on grease for bearings bushes etc.

:D been off the tools now for over 7 years and it's probably 10+ years since ive done a head gasket, so am a bit behind the times with new methods/materials for HG gasket fitting, just ive never heard of anyone using copper spray.

Did you get instructions with the gasket ?

There may be something in there, but didnt want to disturb the packaging!

I've just read about them on what they say to do. They say they have a special coating on them to help seal.

Then I'd be wary of using anything that may affect the coating.

I know, its just you read that other people still put it on and then it gets you thinking, lol.

Maybe thats why theirs fail and then they main cometic sucks!

Agreed!

I never have used anything on headgaskets as they usually have their own coating,to aid bonding, the key to fittting headgaskets correctly is making sure the surfaces are flat and clean, and no oil in bolt holes to hydraulic and correct torque or angle// not sure on metal hg, is there issues with cometic hg as i've bough some to build my spare engine???

I think some people have, but a lot of people havent.

Im going to use them as I have bought them now!!!

I bet they didnt fit them properly!

No oil in bolt holes but you MUST lube the threads before torqueing or else the torque will be incorrect due to friction on the threads!!!

Dont forget Molybendum lube under the bolt heads too to reduce friction ;)
