I'm after a Wings West front end but not sure where to place the front number plate if at all.

What has everyone else done?

Is it legal to have it in your front window instead??

Cool i like your fun size plate, think i'll go for that too. I hate to say this but looking on the site the border would look pretty cool in pink.

I stand to be corrected on this but as long as your number is "clearly" visible from the front isnt it ok to have it in the window?

...and I got done for having a 3/4 size plate...so best keep it legal !!

Mine is a slightly reduced size, mounted on some bendy aluminium strips/brackets so it lies almost flat but can be stood upright if I ever get pulled.

Not been stopped in about 4 years with it like this and it keeps the smooth lines of the bumper and is only visible from the front :)

Love that car Chris.

Cheers Si, I take that as a big compliment coming from the forum nit-picker LOL

That was at the North East / Yorks Rolling Road day last weekend. Lots of pics in the events section.

I haven't been out in it for months but decided to drag it out with no tax and a knackered clutch :x:

Was worth it for the smile I had when one of the Skyline owners came over and said "What's that?! That's one phatt car!" :nana2:

To be honest there's chips, scrapes or rust on almost every panel now after some silly kerb incidents and 2 engine swaps by careless people.

I've had no money to keep on top of things :(

I've got a big clutch on the way and a few other small bits to get it running properly for summer so by April I'll be back on that rolling road to prove it's a 550bhp car, even if it will probably still look a bit scruffy for now ;)

I've had a read of the DVLA info and it doesn't seem to state where number plates must be mounted other than the front and rear of the vehicle...

Technically, 3/4 sized plates are not illegal. The only stipulation is font and spacing. Nothing is mentioned about size.

What he said......

......I have a 99 spec front bumper on my UK car. As there are only 5 characters (personal reg) the font is "standard" size but the height/width of the plate are reduced to fit the raised number plate section exactly (don't have a pic though).

I've never been stopped by the constabulary and the car has passed 3 MOTs without a problem.

Richard ;)

I have something to say............ It's better to burn out than to fade away..... :tt2:

actually 3/4 size plates are illegal, because the legal size letters WONT fit on them, but there is also the clause about imported cars that have a non standard bumper that are allowed to have them

i carry a copy of the below and the actual reg' in my car, although like others in about 3 years never been stopped

A concession which will permit some vehicles to continue to display motorcycle size number plates was announced on July 31st 2001 by Minister for Transport John Spellar. This will apply to certain imported cars, mainly from America and the Far East. It follows concerns about the cost of modifying vehicles which are designed for foreign markets and unable to display UK size number plates.

Minister for Transport John Spellar. said

"The introduction of this concession demonstrates that the Government listens and responds to the concerns of motorists.

"We have taken into account the views of enthusiasts, vehicle importers and the police. We have been assured that law enforcement agencies will be able to recognise and record the smaller character size.

"We are clear that the cost of modifying some of these vehicles, in particular those which originate from the USA, to take standard size plates would be costly and unfair. We intend therefore to allow them to display motorcycle size number plates
