Hi all, put z thru MOT today and it passed :) Had the strictist mot inspector as it was his first day in the garage..He tapped each light as he shouted instructions, wobbling my front and back wheels like no tmw  Said he was gona fail it cos had white bulbs in side indicators  But low and behold had my orange ones in the glovebox for safe keeping ;)

So there we have it, another years glorious motoring :nana2:

Cheers mate. It was touch n go for a few moments, but he was very strict so i think it will go thru next years too.... ;)

I always think the worst when i go but if you look after your car over the year you should get through without any problems :D

I always compare MOTs to going to the dentist, i get the same feeling of relief when nothings needed :)

Nice feeling isn't it.

I knew mine would fail on two items, and thats all she did fail on, but I have a couple of weeks before its due anyway so its no big drama.

Ye sure is, better on the old money side too, lol. Had the z for 10 mths now i think so first time i have MOT'd it. I was one happy bunny today, as i said the bloke was so strict will sail thru next too i think :)

I had mine MOT`d for the first time a few weeks ago at my nearest garage...left it with them on the Friday . Guy calls me and says it needs wiper blades and two rear tyres , " Shall I fit them ? "

I say , let me do a search on this site and call you back . I decide on Falken 452`s and he says , But they`re BUDGET tyres , we usually only fit Pirrellis etc .. ( BTW this place is in a pricey mews area..Paul McKenna had a Ferarri and a Bentley Continental parked across the little road and his office is next door ) I say i`m not interested in the name , but the grip , so he orders them for the Monday . So , in the meantime , I collect the car to use it for the weekend , and lo` and behold it has the new MOT on the passenger seat . They`d farmed it out to an MOT garage . No Advisory sheet , just a full MOT . My rear tyres seemed to have loadsa tread on them , but they were " budget " tyres that i`d never heard of and inherited with the car . He`d also asked me if I wanted the fronts changed as well . Anyway , on the basis that the new Falkens might save my ass one day , I let them go ahead with it , but does anyone think I coulda just cancelled the new tyres and paid for the other stuff ?

Maybe I could , but I feel safer now ! LOL

The other thing is , I tested the pressures on the new tyres...offside rear 45 ppsi :nono: ; nearside 26 ppsi . Didn`t think much about it , but even without driving the car , the nearside is losing 5 ppsi a day . Do I have a case for them to fix the leak free of charge as opposed to paying them for a new valve , balancing and labour ( £ 79 per hour :headvswal )

Apologies for the long and boring post

I have a question re. MOTs... If you put your car in for an MOT before the previous years is up and the car fails to pass that must mean that the car is not roadworthy (I believe the MOT is only guarantees the car is roadworthy for the first 24hrs anyhow) and therefore illegal to drive on the road?

If this is the case with the new computerised MOT system the authorities will know that it has a fail against it... Whats are your thoughts on this guys and gals?

No, they won't know if it has a fail on it as no certificate is generated. All the information is put on the system when a car passes with its relevant cert number, emissions and expiry date etc. They'll know when a car has no MOT certificate as it'll give an expiry date. You can also add any months on (up to 3 I think) from your previous MOT into your new MOT...so in effect, you can have a 13 or 14 month MOT...although not entirely sure if that old rule is still the case with the new MOTs (it was/is a stupid one anyway)

The previous MOT sheet is still valid up until its expiry even if the car fails on subsequent test; the reasons, due to you almost answering your question already, the MOT only shows a vehicle to be roadworthy on the date it was submitted with that certificate being valid for 1 calendar year.

I would have told them to fook off just for being so cheeky

Take the car back and explain and ask why there is 46 psi in the tyre in the first place !

They should fix it FOC unless they can show you a nail or anything and if so you will have to pay im afraid.

Cheers , Paul and Scrawni .

Actually , I have just dropped the car off to get the tyre sorted . Asked for a quote for an oil change...." About £130 "

Does anyone know somewhere around West London that can do that for me , and also fit my ATF cooler ( I`ve had it months and really wanna get it installed ASAP )

Thanks folks
