OK

Im in two minds of what to do, ive owned my zed for about 3yrs now and wanting to start modding it in a big way but ive had a notion for a escort cossie for a long time now and i just dont know whether to sell up and go for the cossie or to start the modding prosses on my zed!

The other thing is that my zeds a standard 93spec uk spec tt manual with only 50k on the clock and in mint condition!

All the orginal stickers full service history etc etc etc, the only thing that it has is clear side repeaters.

It just feels like a shame to start modding it now! :nono:

I was thinking of buying another zed that has a bit of work done but this will mean i have two cars and only one driver!

Has anybody got any views thats gonna help me make my mind up or even any experiences

Thanks :)

I bought my Z in 2000 and only started modding it in 2005. Since then ive retired it from a daily car and made it more of a fun car.

Do what you need to do to get your grins, but once you start it is difficult to stop.

if you get a standard one it will feel pretty slow compared to a zed and be prepared to spend money if its tuned as there a weak car ;) plus you cant get one for under £12k!! so they do hold their price realy well and they do look really nice

Take this seriously mate I was in the same boat last week

I sold my kit car wanted something fast to drive around in

my mind was set on a pulsar gtir I went out in one they are very quick

but then I thought am I having it because there quick or because I like it and so does everyone else

then I thought its A NISSAN SUNNY

the Interior is NISSAN SUNNY absolutely shite

The Exterior = only real car enthusiasts like them, everyone else thinks there horrible

youd be in the same boat with your cossie it is a FORD ESCORT Inside

there quick and cult like the Pulsar

I believe youve got to enjoy the car so didnt buy it

and lets face it I bought Another SWB TT yesterday you cant beat sitting there like your in the cockpit of battlestar gallactica

And Every one stares

have a good think dude

ta chris

No, it's a little different with an Escos. Escos gets far more attention and admiration than the Pulsar (Pulsar is still an exciting machine). Pulsar is an ugly car where as the Escos is something a bit special and most car enthusiasts have a soft spot for them. Certainly has a lot of of a cult status than the Pulsar.

I've always liked the Escort Cosworth, it's bulging arches and nice stance give it such an agressive and purposful look to it. It's actually got more in comming with the Sierra Cosworth and only the doors and other small bits of trim are actually Escort.

You guys are ment to be helpin! this is making it worse!

Im right on line with funkysi the cossie is just such a nice looking car and so special, but so is my zed every time i turn and look at it in the yard :headvswal

By the time ive finished with the zed its gonna be costin well over the 12k mark

Think you should understand this ok by your own spec's ;)

Cossie's nice but a bit of a wide boy's car.

The 300 is (a little) classier.

Cossie faster on a twisty road.

300 faster in a stright line.

Don't know which would cost more to run......

I'd stick with the 300 everytime.

Running costs arnt the issue cause its only a w'end car anyway.

Pound for pound value the zed wins but then again it would win against just about every other car on the road today new or old and when you get in it just puts a smile on you face! :)

Put it this way....in my collection, I'd have a Z32 and an Escort Cosworth....over any other Cosworth powered road going ford...other than the RS200 and possibly an original black Texaco RS500. :)

I do have a real soft spot for the race heratige Fords for some reason. Would never have a Sierra Saphire Cosworth though. Find them a bit cheesy.

:)

A nicely modified Z can compete on looks and performance with real supercars, I'm not sure the Cossie is in that kind of league.

The Cossie and Pulsar get respect from car nuts but a Z gets looks from everyone.

I'd quite like a maroon sapphire cossie on a Q-plate with rusty arches and a quad headlight conversion and I could bez it about like a fooking nutter

I know what you mean!

The escort cossie is just special in its own right and so is the zed!

Ive looked at supras etc etc but the only other car that would appeal to me is a nice m coupe, thats the hatch one with the m3 engine! :)

I think those M coupes look hideous. Very impressive machines though. Supras have never really interested me. As they age, they start to look quite ugly. I've seen 3 on the roads today and they are not a nice looking car anymore....just seem to have quite an oddball appearance. Just my 2 penneth anyway.

Its the ugly look that i like about them plus they're odd!

They're not in the running anyway just the two as mentioned above and as said before for a weekend car i dont need two cars!

Thought about the BMW 850CSi? Don't have the same appeal really...I dunno...they were just a car I also looked at buying before purchasing the Z. Along with a Gen 4 Z28 Camaro.

Supercharge this baby and you'll have an absolutely insane peice of kit.

I know the escorts got a bit more cred than some

but thats what I meant

do you want to feel/look like your in a super car ie(interior/exterior wise) you wont in an escort cosworth

there good cars but I Like people to stare and think Im the man :p

you get that on the Z

especially with a few mods :nana2:

Nice car but just not for me!

Wouldnt mind one for a month though but just couldnt see it in the garage in a years time

and you forgot 850 are mostly automatics as well ooooooooooooppss lol

A mate of mine had an escort cosworth, in imperial blue. Was

an absolutley gorgeous car, completely stock, small turbo model.

It was the car that got me into the whole 'turbo car scene', i'd give

my left *****ck to own one now, but the prices just don't depreciate,

theres a guy in my village, had a black one running 350bhp, was a k-plate.

He just sold it for £13k!!

As far as i know, they are not an escort anyway, they are based on

a sierra floorpan, built by karman in germany. So not the usual garbage

ford build quality either.

If you have the means to buy & run one mate, then do it!

If thet really don't depreciate they'd be an excellent buy.

What sort of power do they make? I know the Saphire was about 220bhp - not much compared to todays 250bhp Astras! But I think you could chip them up, really good see.

keep your Z for road use

and if you want the ultimate in performance 350bhp per ton would destroy most things let alone the cossies pulsars etc within reason

theres one thing it takes everything on no matter what and thats handling

I built this myself and got it ready last summer agreed value of 10k

you could do one for about 5k if you tried

MK Indy Yamaha R1 60mph in first gear gets there in about 3.8 secs ,paddle shift, 13,000rpm. Everyone will crowd round it when you pull up I built this 6 months ago and only sold it because I moved house

Insurance is stupidly low aswell ie around 200 quid

something to consider I shall get another in the nice weather and still keep the Z

Escort Cosworth was similar power, but the engines are very tuneable and pretty robust. Not too difficult to see 400bhp out of one. If you start spending big money on them, you can push them over 500bhp. I'd have one over an Evo any day of the week. Watch the 'Getaway in Stockholm' DVD and you'll fall in love with the Escort Cosworth if you already haven't.

VXR Astras are close, but 240bhp as standard.

I thought you put pics in by typing the image link inbetween the IMG's

spend 12k on a zed and youll never see your money again...

spend 12k on a cossie and in years to come youll have yourself a collectors item, more of an investment.

my advise...

keep the zed as it is and buy a cossie then you have the best of both worlds... if in the future you decide you dont like the cosworth as much as the zed you can sell it and maybe even make money, similarly if it matches up to your expectations you can sell the zed.

the beauty of the car you have chosen is that you can buy 1 to try it out and as long as you have no major problems you can sell it and get your money back, do it the other way round and youve thrown away 12k!
