afternoon all

i was wondering if any one knows who currently owns the fastest Zed in Britain...?

im interested in quarter mile times, not top speeds.

do you think its some one from this forum or from another Zed related club?

I know Mac1(  ) has an impressive machine, but i know there are other projects going on behind closed doors that are less well publicised... :)

This is the whole reason I created the leaderboards in the dyno sections.... To stop this whole debate of who's is the fastest, who's has the most BHP etc.

Some people, don't find the need to prove themselves to everyone else and are happy knowing that they know what thier car can do. therefore you probably won;t find them in the dyno secion leaderboards.

Each entry for the leaderboard for 1/4 mile, track and RWBHP is updates as the proff is submitted. If people don't want to submit then they won't be on the leaderboards.

So, if yo want to be considered the fastest/most bhp post up your stats/proff and get addedd to the leaderboard.

If anyone asks who's is the fastest from now on we can get rid of the whole debate and point then at the dyno section where they can see for themselves and view the proof of the pudding.

Currently the fastest 300zx's on this site are ?

Andyduff 12.72 @ 120

ed davies12.76 @ 113

Black slag 12.79 @ 110

Rob B 12.88 @ 115

Chunk 13.04 @ 108

Highest RWBHP Z's are:

Cj - 533 @ 6531 - Thor Racing - http://www.300zx.co.uk/forums/showthread.php?t=85644

Machine - 491 @ 7500 - Thor Racing http://www.300zx.co.uk/forums/showthread.php?t=93219

Kirbz - 479 @ 6200 - Town End Garage http://www.300zx.co.uk/forums/showthread.php?t=113777

Boomin33 - 460 @ 6643 - Owen Developments http://www.300zx.co.uk/forums/showthread.php?t=79144

Smithy - 414 @ 6300 - WRC technologies http://www.300zx.co.uk/forums/showthread.php?t=52036

Now I know there are 1/4 miles times by members on here that have been quicker than the above and i also knwo of a few cars running high RWBHP that are not mentioned above, but no stats have been produced for them in the dyno section so I can't update the leaderboards to include them.

you only did it to cause a row LOL :nelson:

Doh ... I've been busted :headvswal :D

On a side note the dyno section has been in place since April 2004.

I used to display the leaderboard in terms of graphs mapping each person on a graph based on that particular dyno location. i.e. thor would have about 8 - 9 people mapped on the same graph and other location dyno grapths would only have one.

When my car was off the road for 3 years I kinda slacked a lot in the upkeep of that part of the forum and it pretty much died, now I'm back what better way to revive it with a little cometetive spirit within the club.

i think this debate is always going to cause problems, which is proven if you look back through the threads over the years. sure, its nice to know you have the most powerful one in the uk, as in RWHP, but its not always the case that its going to get down a 1/4 mile faster than a lower BHP car. its down to the driver, condition of the track, tyres & weather. whats the point in having a 1000bhp car if the tractions not there, its useless then. this topic always makes me laugh at times ;). thats my 2 penneth anyway :nana2:

..and just to complicate things further LOL - I personally don't consider either the 1/4mile or highest BHP to prove the fastest car. Although I do agree that 1/4 mile is the easiest comparison.

but fast does not equate to power...period

and for the ones who are going to argue,a kit car with a cam happy 16 valver with about 180-200 bhp will destroy a zed in 9 tests outer 10;)

does it really matter that much ?

it does to the car behind that cant get past:D

So forget Macs car as it is not the fastest in the country as there is no proof.

So have we come to any conclusion who does?

The quickest Z on the dragstrip isn't a Z32 (Steve ducks for cover) but then that Z would not be the quickest round a circuit or up a hill climb

Not sure of how to judge what qualifies for the fasted Z

Is it the fastest from A to B in a straight line over a set distance

Is it the fasted from A to B with a few curves thrown in

Is It the fasted top speed obtained

i would class, quote "the fastest z" as being the bottom one. the fastest speed obtained, which is what "the fastest" means.

so would I Paul but I suppose anyone could drive fast in a straight line, so the question is who is the better driver and can make their car reach the fastest speed in the hardest situations, lets not forget a lot of speed is to do with driver ability!

From Wikipedia

"The land speed record is the fastest speed achieved by any wheeled vehicle on land, as opposed to one on water or in the air or on rails. It is standardized as the speed over a course of fixed length, averaged over two runs in opposite directions."

So that would say it is not the fasted speed obtained but the fastest speed to cover a measured distance

Case closed then, its my zed one minute before closing time at the local off licence when Andy is on his last can of "La Grand Bierre" to said off licence and back

umm, so that brings other things into the equation . the world land speed record has always been done on the bonneville salt flats, which is quite a long run & not 1/4 mile. so in a way, any car would reach its potential top speed before even getting from point A to point B, therefore, it would still end up being the top speed of the said vehicle over 2 runs, then an average worked out between the 2.

QUOTE:

The speedway is marked out by the Utah State Highway Department at the start of each summer. Usually two tracks are prepared; a 10 mile long straightway for speed trials and an oval or circular track for distance runs, which is typically between 10 and 12 miles (16 and 19 km) long depending on the condition of the salt surface. In recent years, there has also been a 5 mile (8 km) long straightway for qualifying slower vehicles.

Big boo boo in my post re drag challenge

Put the date up as August 18th :o:nelson:but should be Saturday August 16th at the Pod

Listen guys and girls.

I'm not putting up a leaderboard for fastest top end and I'm not adding a section for the salt flats of Utah !!!.

Lets stick to what we got in the dyno section. If we wanna aim to move up the ladder or get on it post your stats there and I'll ammend the leaderboards.

If there are people that think the dyno section and the leaderboards are going to cause trouble or rifts between people, I'm happy to take contrustive critism of how to get round it.

Leaderboard's are good! It's shows people what can be achieved and some goals to beat if they're feeling competative.

If people don't want to be on there then they don't have to submit their proof or can just ask to be excluded.

sounds like TOTB ;)

Yep that WAS one of the best ways to judge if you have the good allrounder, the hardest thing IMO to do of the lot.

But its Horses for courses, if you want an out and out Drag car, you will not get it to handle round the B roads like a 911.

RE; TOTB thats pretty much a home for AWD nowadays or the Likes of Dax's/Caterhams.

As far as bragging rights go, I agree if you are proud of your time its YOUR PB that you aim to beat, if you go chasing the Big guns, then fine its a long way up Coz There will ALWAYS be bigger and better round the corner, thats why a board to post times/Dyno figs. makes sense.;)

*Adds to my previous post.

If you had a 700WHP 300zx, and you ran an 11.2 @Pod does that mean you have the fastest Z IF No-one beats that time(Maybe But that time is just on a 1/4 at one strip-only adding that before soemone adds that different strips run different times)...No, someone with 'the arse' will only argue that "Just coz it's quick in a straight line.."

Yeh take that same Z round the 'ring and it might well get owned by someone with a 500WHP Z, but beautifully set-up for track.

Horses for Courses. To me the quickest car around a Track is the quickest car (a test of acceleration, mid range, top speed, handling and braking). However its impossible to compare without a stig lol

Ye me too

Dont need a stig just ask Paul or Dave to drive, lol:rofl:
