Hi guys, it's been a while since I called in but i've been in Oz for the past 3 months backpacking!

Anyway, before I left the UK my Zed (see below for spec) was hit by a slow moving lorry. The only damage is the paint on the front bumper and the panel between the headlights is crumpled. There is no other damage. It took 3 months for the insurance company to write it off and a (small) cheque is now in the post for me. They are allowing me to keep the zed.

So my situation is this, i'm skint after travelling and I am doing low paid temp work with a 30min motorway commute do I a) keep the zed using my pay out money to repair it and keep it well serviced, b) chuck it on ebay and get what I can for it, c) sell it for parts?

The obvious answer from Zed owners would be to keep it but a 3 litre automatic isn't ideal for winter commuting for someone in my financial situation right now

Breaking would be the best finacially but for no other reasons  There shouldnt be a need to take another of the road if it can be fixed up and carry on.

Depending on what your cheque was, if it covers the cost of repairs then fix it up and sell it on, then by a diesel (shudder) Sell it on here though as you will get peanuts on ebay.

Or buy a rail card, give me your zed and drink the payout money :)

It would break my heart to strip it as it drives so well. Maybe I could stick an ad up on this site and see what interest it generates but I don't know how much I could get as it's now a category C write off.

Mind you the more I think about it the more i'm tempted to keep it! :slap:

Thats the spirit :D

See what its worth compared to other similar condition cars when its fixed and see what it worth sold as seen.

Im no good with that kind of thing but just pop up a post asking what your spec car is worth.

How can they write it off if the only problem is a crumpled headlight panel and a bit of paint on the bumpers? Those 2 things can surely be fixed/replaced for about thirty quid.

Now since you've spent 20 quid to join this forum you may as well keep it but then you could put it up for sale anyway and if you get an offer you like then sell it.

Hi guys,

I still haven't really decided what to do although putting an ad up on the site seems sensible.

Everyone who has seen the 'damage' is staggered that it was written off but when you realise the insurers valued my baby at £1270 it's not suprising that a few new bits add up to more than the car is supposedly worth :headvswal

I would 100% keep it if my commute wasn't as long as it is, maybe a change of job is in order :)

Hey mate

Hope you had a good time in Oz - lucky barsteward!

If I was you I'd get used parts and fix it up. Then wither keep it or sell it - up to you!

That said, if you break it the wheels and exhaust would be snapped up. Probably the brakes too.
