In Januarys 07 Jap performace magazzine there is a full feature on testing different intercoolers available for the Scoobies. This is an indepth test repot and one of the coolers they used was an ebay jobbie. It was good to see that whilst at 1st the Ebay one seemed to operate a fraction cooler than stock, it actually LOST power. Just for those who often think about using Ebay coolers cos they look good value!

cheers

was it an independent test, or just the magazine with a rolling road?? Only reason I ask is that i work in publishing, and guarantee you that if imitation products came anywhere other than bottom in a product test we would lose our advertisers overnight.

only playing devil's advocate... ;)

I used to work for a magazine that did lots of testting of products like this (but for motorbikes).

They did the tests fairly and often did lose advertisers as a result.

They wanted to tell the truth otherwise the whole thing would have been pointless.

J Perf test looked pretty comprehensive and unbiased to me. But then as a physicist turned marketer, which one of me do you trust

similar tests were also done on intercoolers for the Zed.

no ebay ones (yet) though, but the test is still ongoing.

He's still trying to collect as many different intercoolers for the Zed as possible

Just because products are on eBay doesn't mean they are crap.

It's the biggest world wide market place and lots of well respected companies have stores on there :)

Ash's results are meaningless without some thermal efficiency data to go with the flow data. Good intercooler design is a compromise of the two.

You could make some that flow huge numbers but have useless heat transfer - like if you left out the turbulators!

Spent a while having a tour of Pace's manufacturing facility a while a go, was really interesting to see. They are the only company in the UK who produce all cores in-house and can customise them right down to turbulator design, fin density etc.

i have a pace big front mount intercooler, pace all the way, i looked at hks and all the other really big names and pace came out top.

Some products on ebay are either crap or copies made in china or thailand beware .

i agree with karl pace side mounts for me,,these cold days i need a new clutch because of the increase in power due to these babies

What was just as interesting was that although the FMIC they fitted in the tests dropped intake temps from a whopping 60 degrees to just 16 degrees at 1.35bar boost....it only offered up an extra 15hp, depsite the huge boost levels....barely noticable.....yet what they did notice notice was the increased lag.
