I only ask because i just bought a pair to recon but didn't ask if they were off an auto/manual doh!

ย

They're off a similar aged jap spec car though but i remember someone saying that auto turbos are smaller than manual tt cars

Featured Replies

i think if you put manual tubs on an auto you will have lag as there bigger and take longer to spool up

Oki doki, i'd better find out off this guy what they are. If they don't fit i'll just sell them on to someone who needs them, they came off a running car and were sound when he took them off.

ย

Yes, fits straight on.

The extra lag is very small and barely noticable.

What was going to say, yes will bolt straight on and i seriously doubt you would ever notice the difference power wise or lag wise ;)

I dunno if they ever fixed it but when the Z32 auto came out they had messed up reverse gear and in theory you could go backwards as fast as forwards! How impressive would that be a Tescos!

Apparently not BB. The story goes, rather than make a seperate reverse clutch and gearset in the gearbox or fit the reverse idler to 1st gear the engineers just stuck it on the end of the geartrain so the gearbox would shift up and down the gears just the same in forward and reverse!

Like I said I dunno if it was true, when the Z32 was released I was still a 1st year apprentice!

lol, i might try that...... maybe never lol :D Could do a trip out to tesco car park later or even try it at santa pod next time :D

FYI - Turbos are not actually smaller. They are physically identical, its just the Compressor wheel is slightly smaller on the Autos. (slightly less power but slightly less lag)

both turbine and compressor wheels of MT and AT tubs are exactly the same actually.

The only difference between MT and AT turbos is the turbine housing, which has a slightly less AR value on the AT tubs (basically the inner volume of the housing is slightly smaller).

ย

to make MT turbos out of AT turbos (and vice versa) you'd only have to swap around the turbine housings
