I need some help to fix my leaking targas! :rant: :rant: :rant: Im sick of it now - for the past year Ive put up with water dripping onto my right knee out of the A-pillar pods that have filled up cos water's managing to get in somehow through the targas and down the A-pillar. i changed the whole driver-side rubber last week, and got a tube of rubber sealant from Halfrauds - most of which I used to bung up every hole I could see. got into the car yesterday for a drive and I almost got bloody soaked! :rant: :rant: water coming out of top two pods, water following underneath the targa and dripping straight onto my head!, water collecting above the sun visor and falling into my lap!!! FFS even before i get into the car the insides of the windows are covered in condensation, gawd only knows what its going to be like during the winter. i know there's been plenty of posts on here about how to fix it and believe me ive tried my fair share of them without success. is there anyone local willing to pop over and vacuum-seal my car for me? :p money waiting

no its not them mate - the water flows through to the arches ok. the old 'milk bottle' test shows the water ignoring the hole in the roof and flowing through some invisible hole into the 'unscrewable' corner at the top of the A-pillar. :headvswal

yes its an aftermarket 3-gauge jobbie, with a screw at the top that goes into a clip that's inserted into the square hole in the shell itself.

It might be a long shot but mine was doin the same, i sprayed silicone spray on the seals It actually swells them up thus making the seal tighter. hope this helps.

Okay bud well try this, because the moulds that were made for these concentrated on the outside surface being as per oem, the inside wasn't, so the back of them is not quite as per oem. sometimes what happens is when putting this screw in you tighten it just a tad too much, this then squeezes against the drain tube and thus causes it to overflow in heavy rain. Loosen the screw a few turns and wait for the drain tube to expand again and see how you get on. I bet it never happened before fitting the new trim ??

paul if this works you are a god.....coz i'm getting lots of pod rain water on my leg too...off home to try it...well in a while

think i better try this when i get mine back cos i got this problem after fitting a triple pod as wel... hmmmmmmmm

ok thanks for the info so far everyone - i was up at 4am cos the alarm was going off - the rain was somehow setting the microsensors off! i had to get into the car during the cold and rain, turn the driver's sensor away and cover the leaky bit with cloth. im going to have a crack at her today before i pee the neighbours off even more! :nelson:

I feel your pain mate. My Zed also leaks. I replaced all the weather seals, but the water is still leaking in!!! Drives me nuts. When it's raining I put rags on my seats to catch the drips. I might try loosening the screws at the top of the A-pillar, but I'm not holding my breath.

right ive been out yet again, armed with a 2l bottle of test water, two screwdrivers, some towels and some rubber sealant. unfortunately Smithy's suggestion, good that it was, didnt work in my case. i blitzed the hole in the top with water and it all gurgled down ok. the problem was that any excess (or indeed, any water that follows the glass of the targa directly to the A-pillar corner, would find a way of getting on the other side of the rubber, and then somehow through into the car.

i noticed a couple of areas where the water was managing to get between the rubber and the metal, and so i dried them off, eased them out with a flatheaded screwdriver and filled them full of sealant. you can notice it when the targas are off but bugger that im getting my priorities in order first! :p

i'll have to wait and see if its made any difference, but im still worried by a gap, where the windscreen strip is supposed to meet the strip of the targa. on the passenger side there's hardly any division - there seems to be an extra bit of plastic sat inside the strip. sounds like an obvious problem and an obvious solution, but try as i might, any water that i pour near the gap is collected by the rubber of sealant :headvswal

Have exactly all the same problems as you.

This weekend I will have to go through all the elimination process to try and fix mine.

 

There is a new product on the market called Rain X Anti Fog, supposed to stop condensation problems.

 

I am going to give this a wirll , it wont stop the targas leaking but at least will be able to see in the car.

waitrose do an anti-fog/window cleaner for @ £1....basically it has vinegar in it to make it antifog as far as i can tell

ok update y'all. fingers crossed and touch wood the problem has been partially solved. i'd only driven the Z once since I did the work mentioned above. Just been out in her this afternoon and, toes crossed, no more water from the A-pillar pods. There's still the odd light drip coming from the targa glass (water obviously making its way to the centre from a leak in the outside somewhere) but considering the weather we've been having I see this as a major improvement.

If Im right then it looks like I can step out of my Z without looking like Ive wet myself!

Really hope im not tempting fate by typing this :x:
