450BHP Z standard?

I was chatting to a fellow Z owner at the gym tonight and he said that he would love to own one of the limited edition Z's that were 450BHP standard.

I said what limited edition Z's that is 450BHP standard.

He said that they were the last right hand drive models made and there were only a small number. Hence Limited Edition.

The only thing I can think that it might be is a 3Ltr TT 32V. I went to get an oil filter one day from the local motormania and he showed me in his book that there was a filter for a 32V and a 24V model.

Anyone know anything about these mystical cars?

I'm sure I read something about that. Stillen or JWT done a limited edition for Nissan.

Vijay

I believe they made it alongside the Stock zeds, it was an option of a sports package.

Yep, Stillen built some sort of aniversary edition, probably as a result of their racing successes.

from what i could fine (which wasn't much )it was called the zr1??

but dosent seem to be much info out there about this

but i will be lucking ?

:d

thought the ZR1 was a corvette?

Are you maybe thinking of the Stillen GTZ? If you look at the performance figures on TTnet (I think) it shows the GTZ one. Around 4 seconds to 60 and 170/180ish. Essentially JWT chip, Intake, exhaust and big brakes.+ maybe some other tweaks

Stillen did a limited edition called the SMZ (365BHP) for Nelson in 96. According to the link below it was a ploy by Nelson to increase sales figures in the States. No idea if it made it over here, or in what format if it did. http://www.suntimes.com/auto/nissan/300zx.html

Stillen also made the GTZ ( http://lonestar.texas.net/~nkhanani/articles5.htm )

Finally the SR71 is a (primarily) HKS build @450 odd BHP http://lonestar.texas.net/~nkhanani/articles/sr712.htm that may be the one you're thinking of.

All of these are 'production' cars but all appear to use a modded stock engine; no idea where the 32 valve jobbie comes into it.

Hope this helps,

James.

hmm. appears you're going to have to live without the links for the time being.

Never mind, here is the e-mail I just got from Stillen:

We made a rare Z for the U.S. It was the 1995 300ZX 25 Anniversary SMZ sold

by Nissan Dealerships. Production were limited and numbered. I think it was

465bhp.

But is it the rhd one?

I have asked them for more infor and will post if it arrives.

Result - But what I want to know is.....

Sometimes its hard enough trying to get your insurance company to find the correct model of Z.

Firebond only have listed ZX NA and ZX Turbo but they dont state TT or any other models, such as Fair Lady. Dont know if any of you guys have had different experiences.

Would you have to state that it was a special edition and if the time came to claim, would the baboons at the claim adjusters office know any difference.(No Offence if anyone here is a claims adjuster - you would obviously know your shit). Would the log book give that much detail or could you get away with it.

I'm sure you can all see where I'm going with this. wink.gif

In another post someone reported good experience / prices from Tesco so I gave them a bell. Their quote was £120 cheaper and their goodies / excess etc were better.

This was for a TT J import.

When I gave them the reg no, they immediately knew what sort of car I had - even that it was a J import. I asked them to check specifically for a Japanese import (I told them many insurers have problems with imports).

They said don't worry - our computers are directly linked with the DVLA and we take the model type directly from the DVLA.

I just checked my V5 which does indeed say that my car is an imported vehicle, gives the correct type (Nissan 300 ZX 2+2 Coupe) VIN / Engine No etc.

It would seem that some insurers (eg Tesco) are happy to give quotes based on what the car is listed as by the DVLA.

The interesting question is what would their computers say when confronted with a reg no of an imported Nissan Stillen? Does the UK DVLA draw a distinction between one model of TT and another? FIAK

If there is one in the UK, it would be worth doing a dry run with Tesco.

PS - Cos, If you get one, can I have a go? Pretty please? - Gio

Stop Press from Stillen. (e-mail just arrived)

Apparently there's more than one - the one they told me about earlier didn't have that much hp - only (!) 365hp.

There is an even rarer one with 455hp.

As you can see from their e-mail, they have promised various info which I will post when it arrives.

Stillen quote:

I just realized I made a big typo for the horsepower it is 365 not 465.

Sorry for the mistake. We did however create a very rare GTZ that had

455bhp. I will send the latest Power Stage chart for you to view. I am also

including a pdf of a scanned article from Sport Car International, Volume

11, Issue 9, September 1995. I will also send you the SMZ mini brochure in

pdf format. I'll also send you a picture of the GTZ and maybe a few other Z

pics.

What nice powerymost of the deep joyful spinneryturb these ameripeeps are.

Oh yes.

RCD

the dvla are so stupid i filled out the new reg doc telling them ie fairlady z with all the cc vin and everything they even had the interpol slip from when the car was seized telling them exactly what it was and where it was from the dealer fowm whom i got it on the docs he sent off wrote everything down and yet it still came back like that i'm just gutted it wasnt something like a 1 ltr and then i would have got cheap car tax lol

US news on the SMZ. I just received the pdf of the Stillen brochure. It is 320k so I can't post it - unless the wonderful and kind administrators let me? Or I can send it to (whoever) and they can post it on the site if they want?

365 bhp, 1995 / 1996 model year, available through Nissan dealers (in US I guess).

The brochure also mentions a 455 hp GTZ model so whoever mentioned it earlier (Cos started this, I think) was right on the money. I will ask Stillen for more details.

Still haven't tracked down the RHD ones tho'... biggrin.gif

Gio mate, send me that if you could mate biggrin.gif

jerome.w@ntlworld.com

If anyone is still interested and if you don't mind a website which has been bodged beyond belief, here is the stuff which Stillen sent me recently in response to my query about this thread (SMZs, GTZ,s etc).

There is a doc or two to come but there are a couple of nice brochures / articles etc.

http://www.netcomuk.co.uk/~webster/stillen.html

If web-design is important to you - please don't go there! I will be happy to send you the files and let you create a thing of beauty.

Cheeriowibble (too late and 2 much red wine...)

PS buddha, I hope it works - this is my first time so please be gentle with me.
