Hi there,

ive notced (and im sure every other zx owner has too) that when my headlights are on and you go to flash someone the dipped headlights switch off until you've finished flashing. ive done a search and found this problem asked once or twice before but with no replies with a solution.

just wondered if anyone had found a way to keep the dipped lights on while flashing someone, and then obviously off when switching to main beam??

cheers,

sean.

Can i fit H1 bulbs from an ebay '300ZX headlight kit' in my jap import that takes H3C bulbs?

i have upgraded as well to HID 6000 K kit and its brill makes a hell of a diffrence, dont know why nissan designed the headlights so crap you cant see s**t with standard lights, if you find the solution to dipped lights staying on please let me know ill do it as well. chers

NO! Dip beam on both JDM and UK spec Zeds is H3 with the JDM being H3C. H1 will only fit in high beam (both JDM and UK spec). If you're stuck for any bulbs give me a shout - I stock all of them.

The problem is that dip beam is switched by the earth lead on the bulb/housing. If you have regular bulbs fitted you could earth the bulb to the chassis which prevents the bulb from switching off when flashing. Unfortunately that trick doesn't work when you have HID's installed in the dip beam and your only route is to do something clever with the wiring in/around the fuse box (see an earlier post for instructions).

Actually Danny mate when I fitted my HID's on my UK car I earthed them direct to the bolts that hold the radiator brackets down and they now stay on with the main beam. I just thought that was the correct way to wire them up at the time. Now I realise I did a mini-mod without realising!!!! :)

Hmmmm ... that's interesting because when I tried doing that it didn't work for me. Wonder why? Then again, my car is JDM so there may be a difference in where the bulb housing is earthed.

my car is also JDM mate and ive tried it and it works perfect! all i did was crimp a wire on the ground wire of each of the dipped headlight bulb plugs and then found a ground point on the chassis of the car. hey presto...worked a treat

i just thought mate, did you earth the housing or the ground wire of the plug? i only say this as if i remember correctly hid bulbs have a plastic base (the bit that is held in by the bulb holder clip) so earthing the housing would make no difference. my hid kit came with two spade terminals which i just plugged straight into the h3c bulb plug.

just a thought ;)

Yeah, I'm aware of those facts and tried a few methods but with no effect. Will go out tomorrow and give it another go.

Can someone confirm that this mod also works on UK spec Zeds please?

Thanks!
