Dunno if anyone has read this months Japanese Performance mag but there is a '10 best jap cars under £4000' section.

Now the zed is in there along with others such as a subaru wrx, skyline gts, mr2 turbo, evo 1-3, mx-5, 3000gt and some others.

They are all rated on tunability, handling, performance and.... street cred.

Now most (including the zed) have scored 3/5 on street cred. Except for the wrx which scored 4!!!!

I hope I'm not the only one who thinks this is shocking.

Now this isn't a 'which car is better thread' as we all know that the subaru is a good car. But 4/5 for street cred!? When they're everywhere!

they are hideous things but then again its down to personal prefernces and tastes. The person who has made these scores up most probably is bias. He might well own one

he might well want to rethink his job also if he believes that a wrx would even come in the top ten, but then again it all goes back to personal preference

I'm an evo man myself although the sound from a prezza is more my kind of thing, that flat four thrum.

BUT they're common as dog shite and i can't stand em personally

If you want the sound of an impreza, just remove a few coilpacks..and hey presto ;)

Half the world thinks the Impreza is an overhyped common max-power taxi, and the rest are besotted with them and rate them over ferrari and porches.

I suppose if you wear nike shocks you got 'street cred'. But if you find some shoes that no one really sees then you don't.

I guess street cred is over-rated.

I'd have to agree. They're not much to look at, and whilst they do offer affordable performance, they're absolutely *everywhere*. I mean *everywhere*. It's Sunday, I'm in the office (don't ask) and there are no cars around at all in the car park or on the roads outside (except mine), but this is IT/startup city and if I were to go outside right now and hurl a brick you can guarantee that somehow or other I'd manage to hit an Impreza, and if not one of them then an RX8. Bloody things. They're like a disease.

Was thinking of getting a scooby for the Mrs.... but only cos it got 4 doors a boot, for the kids ( 4 doors not the boot)

If street cred means following the croud (sheep - baaaaah) then yes the wrecks (WRX) should be in there. My question is, if that is the case, then what the **** is the Z doing in the list?!?!?!?! Agreed about RX8 as well - far far far too many around...

Probably confused it with street dead. lol

i think its a case of the zed not getting the publicity the evo's, skylines and scoobys get in the many performance mags that are read by the young chav's so the twats dont know anything about them, so to them they are the be and end all of all performance cars, in short they have been brainwashed by the over exposier of said vehicles so they go out and buy 1 then cant understand why a car most dont know excists whops their arse in their ultimate street crap!! Then o dear their street cred is gone

Time the zed got more publicity i think, it could have its own dedicated mag, that would be cool :)

Can't say too many bad things about the Impreza to be honest, it's a great car! The first time I was driven in one I was in awe. It seemed there was no need to slow down for corners. Can't deny they are a little common and maybe a little to obvious but if you want a practical fast car it seems to fit the bill.

I am not one for all this rivalry bo!!ocks anyway between other jap cars. They are all great in my opinion. We should be joing forces to piss on the Beemers out there...now they are common as muck!

Here here brother and their drivers are all :xxx:'s

being an impreza owner... i have to agree that they are second rate jap cars, the build quality is poor... but it does have a fun factor when you want to go round corners fast because they lap it up, they are quite comfy on long journeys but again they are juicy for the family wagon and damned expensive to insure!

im glad iv owned 1 but if i had the choice id go for the evo every time... the mrs wanted an estate!

as for the zed publicity thing i dont mind the fact that they arent very well known or spoken about because it makes them a little different and unique... if they were the talk of all the mags etc then we could be the ones driving the tampon car!

we all know and appreciate the nature and character of these cars so lets stop worrying about what every1 else thinks and enjoy it!

ps, if any1 wants a scooby itll prolly be for sale soon (99 impreza wagon uk spec 63k fsh blue and yes... gold wheels!) :p

I for one am happy that the Z isnt as popular as the scooby, its more exclusive and with the rarity of them on the roads more people stop and stare...doesnt happen with scoob does it

Exactly!

Just the magazine giving people what they want to hear, like the salivating dogs they are

Granted, the Imprezza is a good road car but would I have one?

No, too many doors.....plus if I want a 4x4 I'll buy an SUV not a car. OK I did briefly think about having one as a daily driver but it was a very brief thought and no more......

It may be a wolf in sheep's clothing but then sheep all tend to follow one and other

Richard

I have something to say............ It's better to burn out than to fade away..... :tt2:
