Hi

Mods are safe. most people here have been running them with no ill effects.

But dont forget that is a 15 or so year old car you have there.

The more Umph you put into it the more chance you have of going bang, but a little more boost would be fine.

what mods do u have done and everyone says to get an apexi filter is this the best?

Auto or manual? If its auto ensure you have an uprated oil cooler for the box if its an import. You should be ok up to 14psi with a decent chip :)

its an import and auto just basically looking for advice from people with mods done the car is quick already and the missus would execute me if she new that i wanted to make it quicker but i do!!

when i first got the zed it used toboost to 7+ which i have been told is the same sort of performance if i had a chip and boost jets

Get a better chip though! Speak to John Dixon. He'll sort you out if you're going the boost jet route.

cheers si i will pm him now are boost jets ok or am i better off with a boost controller is a controller a bit like a bleed valve?

I dunno...some people would say that the best route is a boost conroller. Quite a few on here are running boost jets. It's a far cheaper way of doing it, but you don't have direct control over the amount of boost. It's not as accurate either as you get boost spikes. Not for very long periods. But say you fit 1mm jets hoping to get around (I think 14/15), it can sometimes spike to 20PSi or more...which isn't always healthy. But the spikes are relatively short lived, so shouldn't pose a problem. Decent electronic devices, aka boost controllers react to this and can reduce most of it.

Anyway, fit an aftermarket boost gauge and you may see this happening.

have u got chips at swz?

How should I know?

I'm sure PJ can get hold of JWT chips. But you've got to get a chip carrier fitted then. Best to speak to JD really for that stuff.

Apexi is the best one for the zed, danny @ DTA can sort you out with that, better brakes are a must if your upping the power, smithy can sort you out with thoughs, a s/s zorst will hepl the beathing, boost jets or an EBC i would go for the latter, greddy seams to be everyones chice, think you can pick them up on ebay for about £200. then a chip, john dixon's the man to see about that, as has been said an uprated auto box cooler is a must, like at the zcentre for that.

Then there are other things, a feul line kit from smithy will replace, the 8 15 year old connections for 4 s/s ones, check out the traders section, for some more ideas

ok mate thanx

get some good brakes, and as andy has said an aftermarket oil cooler for the autobox, otherwise it will go BANG and it will go believe me

making sure you have a solid car first before you add power, all that power and you cant stop ;)

advantage of an elctronic controller is it can be controlled from inside the car rather than having a set amount of boost and only being able to control the level of PSI via throttle pedal, winters coming decent tyres are good ;)

ApexI intake (NOT universal!), aftermarket eprom, and boost jets (go safe with 1mm or 1.2mm). then once youve had your fun and want to go the next stage, zorst and electronic boost controller, and decat (but do a search for 'decat' first tho ;) )

ANDYP does chips etc. Sure he will be able to sort you out. I think you can just post him your ECU and he will do it.

you will find alot comes down to budget mate, its best to save up and do it in a oner i have found, unless your just going for normal mods like exhaust, chip induction kit and boost upgrade.

cooling is a big key aswell, but thats something for the traders to talk to you about, i dont know enough about all that to go into it.

good luck karl

Also think about what makes it go and stop, there will be more load on the clutch and brakes, they will be the next things on the list after more power and a cooling upgrade.
