Hopefully my (second hand) 99 spec rear lights will turn up in the next couple of days.

I was just wondering if anyone had any tips for fitting/sealing the lights to the rear.

Obviously I will have pulled most of the original tar off the car before instalation.

Should I use silicon or some other filler?

Thanks...

TBH I'd leave as much of the tar on as possible. The 99 lights should come with a layer of the stuff as well (depending on how they were sealed on the last vehicle) and you should end up with a nice even seal. If you still wanted to remove all of the old stuff, I believe some members have used silicone sealant successfully...

Nissan actually supply a roll of the tar substance for installing the 99 specs. Not sure how many people have actually received/used this however

He's got second hand rear lights, so suggest that he won't have the 2 coils of tar supplied with items when new. Not sure if you can get the tar coils new from MJP. I'd ask Mike and see. Better off making a good job of it.

I cleaned mine all up and used the new tar coils when fitting mine. Centre panel needs no tar though.

when I bought my rear lights from Z-centre, Luke supplied a tube of black sealer which both sticks and seals the light cluster - might be worth giving him a ring!!! Be warned though, if you get it on your hands it's a pig to shift, tried white spirit, thinners, swarfega etc and still had the c**p on fingers for days!!! have fun!!!

Thanks guys,

I have had the old lights out once before so I know how horrible the tar is.

Luckily my new lights turned up today and they have sufficient tar on them so I don't need to worry about sealing them.

Moby - I used WD40 to get the tar off my hands last time, works a treat...

Don't forget to get some pics up!! I trust you're fitting a new center panel too.

Now, why didn't I think of that...................never mind, nice to know for next time!!

Cheers

Brake fluid's good too...but there's the issue of it being just a 'little' carcinogenic!

I must admit, the centre panel does look much better than I expected, can't wait to fit it all.

Thanks for leaving all the black crap on, it will come in handy!

Of course I will get pics up ASAP.

Thanks again Kirbz...
