It seems that many of you guys seem so keen on a slicktop Zed.

Other than the fact they are quite rare is there any other reason?

The fact you can take the roof off was one of the main deciding factors for me to have a Zed over an RX7, Supra or GTO. I also had a T-bar MR2 tubs before so felt I could not let the "roof off" thing go.

So go on.....why???

Weight and the added stiffness. I personally would not go for one as I love the t-tops. But those who really use their car and have the slicktops love the benefits of what I've stated.

Is it really stiffer though as the Zed was designed to have T-Tops?

i think so...when cars been frosted over you can here the t tops creaking, well i can on mine anyway lol

slicktops just feel so much better then t tops.

great for a track day car

they really are different cars,i have both a slicktop and a targa top,the Slicktop is a far more positive car to drive fast,in my opinion the ultimate Zed,no good for posers though ;)

A contributory factor there could be that your slicktop is a SWB and yout t-top is a LWB.

When the targas are in place flex will be reduced a bit, the slickie should be stiffer but I'd say the overall advantage is the weight. I prefer the targas though..... :p

Richard

I have something to say............ It's better to burn out than to fade away..... :tt2:

you cant beat posing with the targas off on a sunny day,all the girlies looking. i cant imagine theres that much difference with a slicktop for handling on public roads. on a track maybe with high speed corners etc but you cant do that on public roads so my targa version for me i think.

I find targas of is OK when it's no hotter than 25 degrees. after that I get too hot and prefer the roofs on and a/c going nice and cold........

Thats not very original Greg is it??? :slap:

Been there... done that.. Got the Z Club Drag Challenge T shirt to prove it!!!

I fookin hate targas. They are such an appaling feature on a vehicle. Ugh

Just stand back a moment and look at them ...

Bit like rear seats really... Sillly idea.

Next thing some of you will try n say is that auto boxes are OK!! :mac1:

Yeh right!!

Did they make a Targa top 240Z in 2+2 form??? :nono:

Have you seen any 350Z targa top 2+2s??? :nono:

The Slicktop 300ZX is the only 300ZX... END OF.

Right lads here ye go

lightest is 1997 SWB slicktop manual N/A@ 1440KG

Heaviest is 1989 LWB TT T-Top Auto @1570KG

Extra weight comes mainly from the glass in the roof, auto adds ony 20KG.

With complements of the main dealer computer....now if I can just "borrow" that consult unit.....lol

and i fookin hate self opinionated people and there is nothin like being self opinionated to the point of insult. uh, pete! :nono: just because you dont like 'em some of us do, and some of us have zeds with rear seats for practicality, i do for 1 how else would i take my kids out in it? And some people prefer to have an Auto, every ones choice....END OF. :slap:

very true.

the reason i got a slicktop because thats what i wanted but i did miss the targas in the summer .

People get too hung up on the "type" of Z32 they have.

A big difference in the way they drive or perform?......no!!

You can drive half a dozen Z32's of the same type and each one will have a far more noticable difference in the way they handle/ride/perform than a straight slicktop comparison.

My LWB TT & NA would run rings aroung every Slicktop I've driven.....why? ...becuase I have sorted a suspension setup and that makes 10x the difference that any bodyshell differences make.

yes, in reality a slicktop will have more potential, becuase of the lower weight and extra stiffness in standard form.

I have to agree, the slicktop does look better next to a targa with the roofs in place. The whole car looks sleeker.

As for the 350z, they do a horrid convertible, though :slap:

They look really pants with the roof up. Now if Nissan had made the 350z with a metal folding roof, I'd have one - that's why I bought an SLK. Why didn't they? they did it with the Micra......

Richard :p

If I bought another I reckon I'd still go for a targa. The zed is too big and heavy to run as a track car unless you do a complete 'slickpete' on it, and eats tyres, brakes and every other consumable for breakfast faster than a lighter more track orientated car. May as well just take the roof off kick back and enjoy the speed and comfort! There's always something faster or more nimble no matter what you drive, not that it should stop you having a go..... :)

s**t, next thing your be telling us is communism is the way to go and you want to be president so that everyone thinks, says and does exactly the same as you. everyone likes different things for different reasons and sometimes do it better than you. thats what makes the world go round bud imho lol.

targas are what made me choose the zed too. They're a wondefull invention in my opinion.

Kinda like the man holding the gun thinks they're great inventions too. The man the gun is pointed at isn't too keen though.
