Before I start, I don't mean for this to turn into a flaming post. Today I finished (almost, have to figure out which wire is for the reversing lights) my auto to manual conversion.What a difference! the car is much, much quicker than before (could be something to do with my shagged auto draining massive amounts of power from the engine..).

Pull in third gear is phenominal, had a race with a brand new Subaru WRX STI, and beat him so badly from 60 up that I had to slow down just to make sure he was racing!, previously the same type of car destroyed the Z, beating me by a good 20 car lengths.

Thinking of having a conversion myself.

Apparantly the converted manuals are quicker than the origional ones low to mid range because the cams and turbos are set up for low to mid range torque-they spool up quicker.

I'd like to balance this - I nearly put myself into an early grave finding a Manual TT with leather - found one and love it like a new born German Shep pup BUT!

 

I went out in a pukka auto the other day - we were trying to diagnose a friends limiter probs and so of course the fella had to redline his auto to show me the prob and slap me about with a rancid old kipper! I loved the action of his auto.

I have never rode in an auto and it spooled up and hit 120mph real quick and this was in the wet... huge torque and response - not what I imagined the auto TT to be like at all - I said to him after that he ___nearly___ converted me - as the Isle of Wight is a bitch to drive with 320bhp manual Zed!!

 

So having had bites of both cherries I say autos rock - just an observation from someone who really dislikes the idea of an automatic gearbox in 'general' - I was wholeheartedly impressed, I wouldn't change my Manual for an Auto, but I have to say I really liked that Auto Zed.

I have to put up with a slippy clutch (double plate fitted only 5000 miles ago) and crunch from 3rd to 4th, now sorted by Redline MT-90...

 

S'all relative I guess, I was real impressed by the auto tho..

Glen, people who say Autos are shite have never driven one! I prefer Auto cars as I do alot of miles, when you tend to get stuck in traffic in Birmingham every week in a manual yer left leg after a few months is like Massive Roys! LOL

 

My Supra was an Auto, reason I didn't buy a GTO is that the Turbo versions are all sodding manual, my Kirk is an Auto, Range Rovers have been Autos and of course me Z is an Auto.

 

I agree, not slating manual cars, in a few weeks I'll be back in a manual for a month or so as mine will be off-road again! LMFAO

Yes it is true

I was supprised at how good to drive an auto zed is. Nothing like the other autos i have driven, almost no lag, changes up in a fraction of a second and holds the gears right up to the red line.

I love manual cars - just because I like to change gear myself. A simple personal preference and I have never and will never diss the AutoTT, but those who do knock auto zeds should try a blast in one.

 

They will be very pleasantly surprised.
