I have been looking at insurance quotes for the past couple of months for my first zed and couldn't believe how cheap it was. I was getting quotes of £400-500 for a 25yr old, 1yr NCB, kept in Bournemouth which is one off the best rated areas insurance wise.

However, now i think I have found the zed i want and getting ready to buy i have just checked again and the quotes have doubled! what is going on! someone warned me that this was going to happen but i brushed it off, but i believe they have actually reclassified it now.

I cant do classic insurance as it will be my main car and will be doing about 10k miles a year.

Try using moneysupermarket.co.uk

They search over 50 companies but be very carefull to check the car details.

I done a search and quotes were coming through for £293 fully comp, 25 with 6 yrs no claims and a fully clean licence but when i clicked on it, it was for a Nissan Patole so i reamended it to a 300zx and they came through at double the price!

It's doesn't seem to register a Fairlady Z but it works fine with a 300ZX but if it is an import then you do really wanna get quotes for a Fairlady Z!!!

I'm with Broadsure direct and I'm paying £450 fully comp with unlimted mileage, not that I need that. Anyway, I'm 27, full no claims. Back down to 3 points (was on 6).

I'm in my 7th year of Z ownership - all daily driver NA's ie jap imports and each year I have trouble with insurance company prices. I estimate that I've driven 2 of those years without insurance co Tesco, and each year I have to shop around to stop a good price rocketing into a stupid price. Currently Adrian Flux is good (for me) 7 years ago they were expensive.

Good luck

tried all that and there is no explanation for it. watch out guys when you come to your renewals as you might get a nasty shock. I heard a news story a couple of weeks ago that norwich union (quote you happy - my ass!) are increasing their premiums and expect all their competitors to do the same. Their excuse was it is was getting unprofitable(!) and it would particularly affect young male drivers. It looks like it has started.

Can anyone recommend any other companies that may be more sensibly priced. I have already tried; Adrian Flux (wouldnt quote me), money supermarket, bell, broadsure direct.....just want to get a quote that will allow me to afford my dream car!

I'm with Lifesure (http://www.lifesure.co.uk) I'm 30, 5 years no claims, Mods declared include induction, manual conversion, coilovers, seats, steering wheel, exhaust & chip (think thats it) and I pay £730 a year fully comp on a Jap TT. I had an N/A when I was 25 with no no claims and ended up paying the same for that with no mods and only tpft, that was with admiral.

I know there are a couple of guys who are about your age and are paying less than I am on JAP TT's but can't remember who they are right now.

Also look at Uk models they're cheaper to insure then Imports and there are a couple of very, very nice examples for sale on here and at a good price aswell!

my quote last week was 1200 with budget insurance. im 22 with no no-claims

£645 with "performance direct" - 30 years old, 7 years NCB, limited mileage (3K per year) as this is my second car, all mods declared (exhaust, bigger turbos, overbored, bigger injectors, bigger ic's, chip, induction, c/f prop, koni shocks, blizx springs, bodykit, respray etc etc etc).

Was with Houghton insurance, but their best price for the above was 820.

Before that, I was with Elephant, but had to switch since they said they'd no longer insure me with more than a couple of mods!!

Hope this helps

Hi guys, I guess the over 50 rule does apply here.I'm with the RAC. I'm 51 and pay £319.00 Fully comp with a years membership inc roadside recovery etc.

im 25 ahham a few points  :p and i pay £700 tpft conditions of a cat 2 immobaliser. with adrian flux our clubs official insurance company

i'm with elephant 10 month bonus accelerator costing £545 this year. 24 yrs old living in cambridge, no accidents, no points, 2 yrs ncb but it is an n/a. i've done about 10k this year and its been fine. trouble is i have to be with elephant for 6 yrs to get 5yrs ncb with any other company.

try confused.com which apparently are comming back with some really cheap quotes. The form to fill out prior to their search is a bit of a pain.

Tried these
