Hey all,

I finally got a 300ZX TT last week and only 2 hours after picking her up the engine died

It's 1 of 3 things, oil leak, water leak or just over heated!

Let me tell you what happend!!

Coming home on the M1 it just lost power forcing me to pull over!

Once i stopped, the engine was smoking like a right ******* (white smoke) so to be on the safe side i called the fire brigade!

Fortunatly she wasn't on fire but once they cooled most of the engine down they had a look at the oil dipstick which was bone dry, this convincing us all it was the oil and therefore the engine was ****ed!

Once a recovery guy came and took it to a local service station, he rechecked the oil to find the it was full of oil?!

He then blammed the water so he started to put some in and it just didn't wanna fill up but at the same time i couldn't see any leaking out! If it is the water then that'll be the head ****ed, right??

I've since had to recharge the battery and i was adviced to try and start her to see if i can hear any rattleing.

I refitted the battery this morning and tried to start it however it's just ticking not firing, it's almost like the starter motor is jammed?!

Can onyone give any surgestions as to what it might be??!!

Ant help would be appriciated, I've hopefully got someone coming to look at it later but i'd like other opinions too!

Thanks all

Sorry to say, but sounds like you will need a new engine.

See if you can manually turn the engine (ratchet on the crankpulley).

Also get a few sparkplugs out to check for signs of oil/water in the cylinder

Yeah i was affraid someone was gonna say that!.......

Yep this car was obviously not fit for purpose and therefore you have every right to take it bake and demand your money back.

Does that still apply if it's "sold as seen", 2nd hand and a private sale ?

Thanks for all advice guys!

I actually got it off eBay but i'm gonna either demand my money back plus all expense's i've already had to pay to tow her back or he can buy the engine for it!!!!

Hi mate, Can I just ask why you bought one off ebay when there's so many great Zeds for sale on here from club members at the moment?

Coz it only cost me 2k!!

Coz it only cost me 2k!!
And thats why it cost you 2k coz the engine was knackered. A valuable lesson to be learned here is cheap and 300ZX don't go together. 'Bird' bought one for 2K and has spent 5.5K trying to fix it! I really hope you can get your money back on this car mate.

Well i've had a chat with the kid who's certain there was nothing wrong with the car!

I've threatend him with certain stuff and he's offerd to buy a new engine for me!

Maybe things arn't that bad after all?!!!

Nads300 has an engine for sale on this forum.

+ what type of engine is he offering to by. Some so called 60K low milage just in from Japan oil burning peice of shit from Jap imports, innit.

You must insist that it is bought from one of the reputable breakers from this forum.

That you have a quote from a same dealer for fitting and that he pay up front for the work to be done or he can come and collect his no good piece of scrap and give you your money back.

can't see you getting him to pay for an engine and fitting, you'll be talking 1500-2k for that, that's just like him giving you the car for nothing :)

Good luck ;)

Vijay

Yes it does unless it is sold as for "parts or repare"

Not if the bill of sale says "sold as seen"...

Not if the bill of sale says "sold as seen"...

I can assure you that "Sold as See" wouldn't make the slightest bit of difference in a court of law when it comes to motor vehicals. For obvious reasons. 1, that most people are not mechanics and therefore are entering into a transaction of trust, but 2, most importantly the law itself has a clause in it specific to the sale of motor vehicals and it says that any vehical sold must be fit for purpose and that the purchaser has a right to refund, compensation and/or the right to expect the vendor to replace or repare any defects that occure to the engine streering or drivetrain other than normal where and tear. within a period of 3 months or 5000 miles.

It also go on about it being illegal to sell a vehicle with defective tyres brakes etc.

Unless the car is sold for the purpose of "Spares or repare".

Thats why all the Arther Daleys offer a Three month or 5000 mile warrenty.

Not cost their nice guys or competing in the market place, but because the law say so and it applies to private sale just as much as it does to Traders.

I actually went through this with a solicitor after a car I sold blew up. It was the words, sold as seen on the receipt that made the difference. If that is not there, then you have to prove that you sold the car and disclosed all defects and did not misrepresent in any way.

I had my solicitor write a letter explaiining the law to the other party, which I still have somewhere.

It is not just cars that are covered under the "fit for purpose" rule, but the rule is that you have to give the buyer every opportunity to examine and test the vehicle before they buy. If they fail to do that, then they accept responsibility for the condition of the vehicle when sold. Hence, sold as seen.

Well I bought a car that was suposed to be A1 only to find it had a ceased Turbo and guess what. It was sold as seen. Went to court and because I'd made reasonable requests for repare or refund which they had ignored and because sent me letters from their solicitor saying it was sold as see etc. Which like I said is contry to British law. they even had to pay court costs.

So basiclly your guy bluffed and the buyer panicked. Also it depends when were talking as I think 2+ years ago what your saying was true.

hey back on the subject ok 2k cars............ mines great!!!!!!! selling out of dispare sadly.......................

I've been intouch with "Zed World" which fortunatly arn't to far from me and they said they'll supply and fit fir £1500.

I've told him if he pays the £1000 i'll pay the £500.

He said he'd have a look and check it out but he never agreed with that deal but if he thinks i'll settle for some engine that'll come from Japan then he can **** right off!!!

He never done a receipt and it doesn't say on the eBay listing sold as seen either so is that in my favour????

iif there is no warning about it sold as seen etc... than it should/could... not promising.. but it is a buyer beware market when it comes to buying second hand..... expecially if its a older car...

but I have my fingers crossed for ya bud....
