The Honda rider was traveling at such a "very high speed", his reaction time was not sufficient enough to avoid this accident. Swedish Police estimate a speed of ~250 KM/h (155mph) before the bike hit the slow moving car side-on at an intersection. At that speed, they predicted that the rider's reaction time (once the vehicle came into view) wasn't sufficient enough for him to even apply the brakes. The car had two passengers and the bike rider was found INSIDE the car with them. The Volkswagen actually flipped over from the force of impact and landed 10 feet from where the collision took place.

All three involved (two in car and rider) were killed instantly. This graphic demonstration was placed at the Stockholm Motorcycle Fair by the Swedish Police and Road Safety Department. The sign above the display also noted that the rider had only recently obtained his license.

At 250 KM (155 mph) the operator is traveling at 227 feet per second. With normal reaction time to SEE-DECIDE-REACT of 1.6 seconds the above operator would have traveled over 363 feet while making a decision on what actions to take. In this incident the Swedish police indicate that no actions were taken.

Ouch - doesn't look fun.

The bike looks a bit like an RVF400 (NC35) which wouldn't do anything like 155mph though.

Edit - actually it's more like the RVF750 which would do that sort of speed!

there was a post some time back where people on this forum where glorifying traveling on public roads at these speeds, I wasnt one who shares their views and got flamed.

I REST MY CASE

I could not give a flying fook for the bike rider, the people I feel sory for are teh occupants of the car and their families.

SPEED OPN TRACKS NOT THE FOOKING ROADS

We all go too fast at times. Its the way things are. Lets not become hypocrits. this is a sports car forum and things like this are to be expected. Unfortunate but a fact of life now-a-days.

My cousin was killed in the exact opporsite way by a youth who stole a lorry and hit him square head on with obvious results. It aint always the bikes fault. :nono:

wasnt saying it was always the bikes fault. in fact I did not mention "Bike" at all. And I am sory to disagree with you over the sports car forum and we all speed.

There is absoulty no justification for anyone traveling at race speeds on a public road when there are other motorists and pedestrians about, period. Motorway driving dictates faster speeds, but in this country due to conjestion and lots of other factors it is just pure insanity to drive at racing speeds.

I dont condone anyone driving at high speed on a motorway or equivalent if there is none else on it. This is not a get out clause. If its only you that is at risk and not someone who is inocent then you only have your own butt to wory about.

It wasnt a personal attack Dave. Sorry you got the wrong end. I guess it looked that way. I was just saying that Bikes 8 times out of 10 get the blame because everyone thinks "Bikes are fast therefore it must be the bikes fault". I hadnt fully read your post TBH. Nothing meant by it honest. I do agree tho that if you kill someone else that is very wrong :nono: But the unfortunate fact is (And I am as guilty as the next man/woman) the ability to get to 60 in under 3 seconds is like a drug and can be rather deadly when used at the wrong time in the wrong place by the wrong person. But like I said as a sports car forum we must have to get used to this as whats the point in achieving 400/500 BHP and keeping within the limit of the law?

EDIT: I mean hearing about accidents and the like.....

No harm done tho I hope? :)

..............I was just saying that Bikes 8 times out of 10 get the blame because everyone thinks "Bikes are fast therefore it must be the bikes fault". I.........................No harm done tho I hope? :)

This is exactly the same perception the public have of fast cars too.

If you were driving at 30mph in your ZX and a child runs out in front of you. You would probably not stop in time and hit the poor unfortunate child; however just because you may be driving a ZX, everyone will blame you and say you must have been driving too fast, simply because "you have a fast car"

I've lost count of the times I've almost been hit by dozey bints in people carriers on narrow twisty country lanes because they happen to be driving too fast. I may have only been going 20mph (compared to their 40+) because I cannot see round the tight corners; but because I happen to be in the ZX they always shout at me to slow down..... :nono:

Richard :wack:

I have something to say............ It's better to burn out than to fade away..... :tt2:

thats ok vin.

I think the UK should take some of these accidents to meets, Ill drive round my town tomoro and take some pics of all teh reaths. There are loads of them. Most heart dropping is the mother and 5 year old daughter who where hit by a yet unfound hit and run driver as the car was not registered, taxed, mot etc and was left at teh scene.

not wanting to throw stones in glass houses and stuff but dave take a look at you signiture. what do you call fast? anything over 50? 60? over the national speed limit?

as i said dont want to cause anarguement, thefocus should beon the car passengers family(s)

Neil

Exactly. I often get the look of death if I go rumbling by in my Z. Because it burbles quite a bit, low and wide, it automatically gets the look of 'slow down'!!!!!! Pisses me off no-end.

We've got a long twisty country road out of our house. EVERY SINGLE morning I meet a car/lorry/bike coming that other way that 100% would have plouged into me if I wasn't driving at 15mph. And if I'm driving the Rx7 they still look at me like I'm the dangerous one! People just don't seem to be taught that they should be driving at a speed where they can stop in the visible road in front of them. Its almost like they are saying 'well its national speed limit so I can drive at 60mph' feckwits, does my head in as the missus and other people where we live ride horses on that road. Education is where its at IMO, cameras and fines won't help, they'll just piss people off and alienate the police.

you have all raised valid points.every machine goes faster than speed limits set whether its a bike, car,van or lorry. if you speed you pay the price.we are all vulnerable even if your travelling within the law but your more likely to pay if you travel outside the law which every single motorist does at some point.if you own a race rep bike or a sports car like ours you more likely to speed as thats ONE of the reasons why we buy them. youll look pretty silly if you say you like the way it gets to 30mph.go buy a 3 pin plug ( reliant robin ) if thats what you want. just use caution where ever poss, thats all we can do.especially 30 zones.
