Most Oem Mounts tend to Split or seperate so i am looking into an Alternative Mount and would like some input from other owners that are using other than stock mounts including the Advantages and Disadvantages?

TBH I didnt know there were any alternatives !

Who makes them? Where? How much? etc.

Noltec do Eurothane stronger uprated engine mounts bud.

OEM though are broken and cracked due to age more than anything else especially when the engine is 1st removed.

Price wise, OEM are around the 125 a pair mark and Noltec around the 145 area.

you can make your existing oem mounts alot firmer for under £10, all you need to do is get one tube of windscreen sealer or panel sealer (available from machine mart or motor factors) remove the mounts and fill them so they are solid with sealer.

even if your mounts are wrecked after doing this they will be better/firmer than when new.

I have Noltec, but these do allow the engine to Rock under revs and alter your gearbox possition ever so slightly.

Hi Mate, Was it you that sell Solid Aluminum type Engine Mount's by any chance?

What are these like compared to Eurothane and stock as i have heard certain mounts Can put dents in your Bonnet and Firewall damage too when running higher power?? :)

I have just had a look at the poll and so far 28 owners have viewed and selected a type of mount from the list! Thanks for your time!:) that leaves over 130 left who have viewed the Thread but are not Using any Engine mounts so it seems??

I have a friend who fitted a group N mount to his BX 16V....was the most awful thing he has ever done, as it rattled the car to bits.

Do you have to take your engine out to replace the mounts or can you do it one at a time with the engine in?

You can change them with the Engine out or in. But it is alot easier with the engine Out as the Top Mount Bolts can be a Pain to get to due to the Usual(No room) You maybe ok if you have small hands unlike me! :(

P.s That picture of Clarkson is scary

most of those 130 views will be from people who have already voted, viewing the thread again (several times) as it keeps popping up with new posts.

and some may bw registered users, who cant vote.

Pretty much everybody is going to have OEM mounts, its not a item people really replace, except for when they have engine out and discover damaged mounts.

If you wanted a stronger mount for an engine with increased power, then the Polyeurothene would be ideal.

I have solid mounts (with a slice of rubber on the subframeside) on one of my Zeds and these keep the engine completely steady. (0% engine movement)

You can hear the engine very clearly in the car though, which might not be to everyone's taste.

probably heavily worn ones, as these will allow the engine to move back and forth very much.

if you decide to use noltec's, make sure you use heat shields as these engine mounts won't be able to withstand the engine heat (they'll become hard and britle and fail even before stock mounts do).

numerous reports of these mounts failing on Zeds...all because of heat issues.

I though my Mounts split due to the Engine throwing a Rod!(Its seems it threw a Rod due to overHeating as Number Six Piston has jammed in the Bore so the Small end gave up first leaving the Piston in the Cylinder Bore while the Crank continiued to throw the Rod around! ) but one mount was covered in oil so theres one reason but i thought it was odd that the other mount was in two halve's but now i know this seem's to be a common problem and do not really want to fit stock mounts in if they are going to keep seperating. I am not running stock power so this would put more strain on the Oem mounts.

Before i spend out on New mounts i would like more input on the other mounts available and Pro's and Con's of fitting these!

This would also be helpfull for new and current Members to help them decide as well.

There do not seem to be many threads on Engine mounts as i have searched previously! Polls do tend to Help other Owners in Deciding :)

It does seem that with pretty much eveery engine pulled there will be at least 1 split mount. I personally would go polyeurothene, much stronger than stock but still retaining its damping properties.

stock mounts will be fine for most applications and also tuned cars.

I've removed several engines with over 100000ml and the stock mounts were still fine.

The reason most stock mounts will break in half is when the gearbox is removed without loosening the nuts that fix the mounts to the subframe.

This will release a lot of tension on the mounts as the engine tilts backwards (which happens when the gearbox is removed from the car)

But whatever mounts you go for, don't forget to replace the 3rd engine mount as well (aka gearbox mount)

Looks like i need to!!! That has gone too!

Cheers Lymon thanks for that.

Z1 used to sell noltec mounts but appear to have dropped them.Ive read a few posts on the aus forum where they only lasted 18mnths .

I have removed a couple of engines now and just about all the mounts either come apart during removal or are ready to split afterwards.

Mine is now running on sr20 apex uprated mounts, but it us in an s13
