how the f**k do you get the top bolt out of the gearbox. please bare in mind im doing this job by myself and have no help. i have the gearbox supported and all the other bolts out. i can feel the bolt but but cant get the socket over the head whilst at the back of the gearbox

There are two at the top of the gearbox that are really hard to get to. I used a spanner rather than socket.

Undo the gearbox mounting bracket and support with a jack and slowly lower the box down.

This will give you more space to work, I used a 18" extention and a socket with one of those swivel things (sorry) going in from the back.

got the gearbox bolts out. now how do i stop the flywheel from turning so i can remove the 4 x 14mm bolts going into the torque convertor?

27mm socket and a bar put onto the pully (at the front) then turn flywheel until the bar hits the floor. Now this is chocked up. Undo the flywheel bolts. making sure the pully bolt dont start to unwind. I actually bought a tool to grip the flywheel, £10 from machine mart.

Use a 3/8 or 1/2 U/J a 6 way u/j is more usefull than a 4 way but both will do the job ;)

yep and about 4feet of 3/8" extensions :D

get a mate to hold a breaker bar as said above as its much easier than choking the bar on the floor ;)

did it. i manged to put a bar on pulley and hold it with my legs whilst un-doing the bolts.

On your own eh? know how you feel, where there a will theres a way ;)

yeah on my own. the hardest part was trying to get the top bolt out of the gearbox. i had 9 x 4 inch extensions in a row (which with all the joins was banana shaped) trying to get the socket over a bolt head i could not see whilst lying outside in the rain. glad its out now
