As you may know i've had a ticking noise coming from the top of the engine, someone mentioned that it could be a lifter sticking so i decided to get the engine oil changed. I brought the car to a tyre fitters that also "specialise" in minor servicing.. I provided them with a new oil filter an engine flush and 8lts of Castrol Edge 10w 60 fully synthetic oil, I told them that i wanted them to put the engine flush in and run the car for a short while to thin the oil out and then drain the engine out. I then wanted them to flush the engine out with some of the new oil to make sure that all the engine flush was gone, change the filter and fill it with fresh oil.. sounds simple enough?? My wife collected the car yesterday evening and took it for a drive. The ticking had stopped so i was happy enough. The car was out for a spin today and she now has a very loud knocking noise. I lifted the bonnet and there is oil all around the drivers side of the engine and bonnet. i have just been told by my wife that the "mechanic" said to make sure that there was enough oil in the engine as it was "very thirsty for oil and had taken the full 8 litres" !!!! What the F*** am i going to do ??? I thought the car only holds about 3.5-4 litres. Has this idiot totally wrecked my engine ?? :( Could someone move this to the advice section.. I'm that p***ed off i wasn't minding where i wrote it

8 litres? OH MY GOD!!!! As you said, should only be 3.5-4 :(

Vijay

is it totalled so ??

did it not feel slugish as the oil would of been giving severe crank drag, proberly pushed oil into breathers, try droping half and see how it goes after start-up by keeping it to a idle and let it all clear. dont know what to advise beause never known a zed to run around with that much oil and did,nt even know they could

They are totally responsible for any damage they have caused Richie. 8 litres of oil could be enough to hydrolock the pump in the oil wont reach the top of the engine or be cooled via the cooler.

DONT TOUCH IT!!!!!

Phone them, and get them to come out and inspect the car, you are covered under trading standards as well - try to get them to solve the mess they have made, if they wont, seek legal advice

I can beat that lol

I bought a renault 21 turbo many moons ago

anyway after having it for a month or so i decided to give it a good check over so checked the oil and it had none in AT ALL!? so went to the garage and put mobil 1's finest in, all 5 ltrs and checked it and still nearly empty!! so bought another one put it in and just got to the middle of the dipstick!! anyway a few days later driving it and ploooooms of smoke so i thought i'd fooked it so got in touch with the garage and he couldnt understand it until it clicked and he goes on to tell me they had lost the dip stick and put a clio one in and forgot to tell me!! anyway when we drained it there was 14 ltrs of nice oil in there lol

To be honest it was fine after that

Mike

fook me 8 litres !! either get them to check it or drain it totally and start again with filter and oil and new pcv valves as they gotta be clogged now !! hopefully that should sort it unless its blown the arse outta the rear oil seal with all that pressure .

I can beat that lol

PMSL Mike...

Drain it all out and start again, and if you are a lucky chap you may get away with it.

Rich as ive said DO NOT DO ANYTHING to the car. Phone them and explain the situation to them and what they have done. If you dran the oil you will have no way of proving they put 8 litres in there.

Any Mech on here will tell you, if they make a balls up they a responsible for any damage cause by it.

You also have the law on your side on this, trading standards.

the car now sounds like a tractor with a very loud knocking!!! I've a feeling the engine is totally fecked ..there is a pool of oil on the driveway and there is oil at the air intake pipe 2 in our engine diagram and on the drivers side at the plenum where the pipe connects

as i said m8, to much reaching the crankshaft and it cant pump "froth" round the engine so daft as it sounds with 8 litres in

certain parts will get oil starvation

Right guys.. I phoned the crowd this morning and explained my situation. To be fair they had a mechanic round within 10 minutes.. He listened to the engine and turned it off immediately. he took out the oil dipstick and the oil goes about 4 inches above the "full" marker. I was going to Wicklow so I just threw him the keys and told him to get it sorted.. I got a phonecall from the manager saying they had pumped out half the oil but were afraid to drive it up to the garage as the engine sounded very poorly. I'll know more tomorrow as i told him to hold onto the keys until my car is back running properly.. I'm having the worst month ever... Between this and the hit and run i now have a written off R1 and a wrecked Zed not to mention the MRI on my knee tomorrow

Oh christ mate! bloody incompetant fools. Hopefully they'll sort it. Sorry to hear about all the bad luck. Dave

Feel for you. All the best tomorrow with the MIR, and with getting the Zed sorted.

hope they get it sorted mate - last thing you need with all the other shit going on. everyone has their bad days but the sun always comes out in the end.

they collected the car yesterday and brought it up to their garage. I got a call while on my way to Dublin to say that the big end bearings were gone, there was little oil pressure and that the oil was in everything. I asked them what they thought of it (meaning their incompetence) and they told me " OH... YOU PUT THE WRONG OIL IN FOR THAT TYPE OF CAR, 1.YOU SHOULD HAVE USED CASTOL MAGNATEC FOR AN ENGINE THAT OLD" to which i replied that i had used the new Castrol Edge because it stated in the new Castrol hand book that this was the superior oil for the 300zx. So next I get 2."YOU PUT IN THE WRONG GRADE OF OIL... 0W 30"to which I replied that I definitely did not.He tells me they can only find a Castrol Edge containers marked 0W 30. I started to get p***ed at this and told him that I was that particular that I'd left my oil on the front seat of the car so that they wouldn't get mixed up!! He kept saying " YOU PUT IN THE WRONG OIL" I asked him was he calling me a liar?? and he just kept saying that it was the wrong oil as they were the only 2 castrol containers in the shop. I have been in contact with the guy who supplied me the oil and both himself and myself are 110% certain that they were given 10w 60. He even went and did a stock check to verify this. The Feckers are trying to blame me for their mistakes and I won't be having it!!!! I pointed out to them that even if I had put the correct amount of FRY CRISP AND DRY chip oil into the car it wouldn't have done as much damage as 8 litres of proper oil.. I'm going to have a chat with him this morning... God I wish I wasn't on crutches as he must think I'm a vulnerable idiot.. He's going to know differently later on, crutches or no crutches I'm feeling very hostile!!! Rant Over!!!

So the buck passing has started :(

Have you got a Trading Standards office near you Richie? Might be an idea to make some enquiries down this road before it goes much further

Good luck bud!
