cheched all the levels and its from the radiator.

20 mins outside and there is 3 or four drips on the floor.

when i put water in the filler, it pours streight out onto the floor is abnormal or is it an overfill safety feature. any ideas?

cant get under the car as i dont have any axle stands, the rad is full of water and the stick shows a touch just above the low mark.

what all that about??

if the water is coming out from under the passenger side wing/bumper then your overfilling and the water is coming out of a hole in the top of the overflow bottle.

expect a small puddle of water after driving once you have topped up as the water expands and over fills the overflow bottle

if ur sure its water, then its either a burst hose or the expansion tank has been overflowed (as mentioned)

if its oil then its likely powersteering fluid, the hose is prone to leaking at the coupling.

or its ATF.

thats about all the fluid thats red

thanks so much for the advice, the fluid smells and looks like the water in the radiator which is red, i hope because of anti freeze.

the oil in the auto box is quite clear, definately not red. ill check the powersteering fluid now.

the water is coming from the pass side when im filling up so that makes sense.

if there is water in the rad when i take the cap off is that enough to cool the engine or is there a reserviour with a significant amount more coolant in it?.

i have just driven 2 miles and nothing seems to be leaking out when ive parked, ill wait for the engine to cool down and keep checking.

the advice i am getting on here is fantastic!! (new zed owner)

its probably just the rad has been over filled slightly and the excess has expanded out thru the overflow (follow the tube beside the filler cap)

if u can see water in the rad thru the cap then theres prob enough in it. if u top it up further it will just expand till it finds its own level,

keep an eye on ALL the fluid levals till ur confident its stopped doing it, then u can assume its just been overfilled

the fluid seemed to be coming out of the front centre of the car and not where the overflow is(passenger side). There seemed to be a few semi dry splashes as far up as under the bonnet lid.

how many levels can i check under the bonnet?

rad, oil, auto box oil, break fluid (drivers side under window) and another reserviour on drivers side near front of engine bay, is this the power steering fluid?

any more i can check?

thanks in advance

ive had a good look and there is dried red fluid behind the 2 sensers on the end of 2 thin hoses coming from the rad in a small square recess in on the silver part of the top bit of the engine. all the levels appear fine (the ones i can check) and nothing appears loose on top of the engine.

are there any other levels i havent checked?

see above post

if your getting splashes up on the underside of the bonnet and the water is coming out towards the centre of the engine then your water pump is probably the culprit

water pump....ok, no leaks at the moment and im sure all the levels are fine, how can i check if it is the water pump?

what do you think about if i take it out for a 10-15 min spin and see if i can get it to leak?

help VERY much appreciated!!

does the water pump only leak after a run?

no, when the water pump leaks it leaks all th time, BUT the leak can be intermittant.

find a pic of an engine bay in the rides section and put some circles on it so we know exactly where you are talking about

Never heard of red antifreeze.

are they at 14 and 15?

just taking it out for 20 mins for a spin to see if i can get it to leak, ill keep you posted and thanks a lot for the replies.

Water always sat at the bottom of the filler neck mate, you topped it up?

The water is red/brown because I reckon Bubbles mate put Toyota 4life in which is red/brown!

ey up manta.

ok, updated symptoms. ran it for 15, got it quite hot, no bovva, got home and i have to take a few mins getting it down the drive and past the house, very tight, then i parked up, turned off the ignition and put the targas on. checked for leaks, nowt.

just having a look at the bonnet cos it looks newly warped!!! and i hears this pssssss, looked under the car and watter was lagging out.

looked under bonnett and cant see where its coming from but its from high up, the recess behind 14 and 15 on that photo (above link) is full of red watter, its shed qhite a bit.

any thoughts zed boffins?????

the water is behind the 2 sensers 14 and 15, and under the black metal thing with the 2 white stickers on and the 2 round things on this photo http://www.300zx.co.uk/forums/showthread.php?t=26120 its in a place that i cant see, right under the black thing it seems the water waits until i have stopped, turned the ignition off and waited a few mins before spitting out, would it do that if it was pipes?

as you can tell im no mechanic.

btw it looses about half a pint and then stops!

wooooohooo, my mate has just had a baby boy!!!!! 8lb 8. si ill phone you in a bit!!

Sounds like one of the stubby pipes that come off the top rad pipe mate :(

A common problem on the Zed if they're original pipes :( Mike Feeny (MJP in our traders section) has these in stock and they're very cheap. Replace both of them as it's not a job you want to do twice ;)

Yes can be the pipes mate, heat soak and increase in pressure when you turn off shows up a leak, probably a pin-hole or split

BTW-Congrats to your mate! :duffer:

Never heard of red antifreeze.

Its long life anti Freeze for cars with Iron Blocks and Ally heads. It stops the chemical reaction of the iron and ally which allows an electrical ciruit to form in the water system and corrodes all the steel and rubber water pipes and destroys the heater matrix.

Oh dear !!! what coolant are you using

Sorry havn't read all of thread but you are filling it at the rad cap arn't you? you don't fill from the overflow plastic bottle bit.

dont know what all thats about....sounds scary, im not thinking about it. :wack:

these pipes, can i see them and get to them? if so, any pics or how to's?

Take the fan shroud off mate-you will see a lot better to determine if it's he pipes that are fooked!

does this problem not sound like the water pump any more?........ please say "no, deffo just a couple of 3 quid easy to fit pipes" :wack: :smash:
